Strengths
Powerful bully. Tough and physical. Moves people at the point of attack in the running game. Plus intelligence and awareness. Solid technique. Gets the most out of his natural ability. Shows patience in pass protection. Smooth leading the way as a puller. Easily seals linebackers on the second level. Strong hands and effective punch. Ready to attack and react. Stays poised and keeps a good base against counter moves. Keeps his feet moving and seeks work. Finishes people. Has the versatility to kick inside to guard or center. Battle-tested with championship experience.
Weaknesses
Length and athleticism are borderline average. Too easily controlled by edge rushers that get their hands inside. Over aggressiveness can cause him to miss blocks or end up on the ground.
NFL comparison
Joe Thomas – The scouting report for Jonah Williams almost reads like a guard, but NFL teams might first view him as a left tackle in the mold of Thomas—who also wasn’t the longest or most athletic prospect, but ended his career as nine-time All-Pro.
Conclusion
Overall, Jonah Williams should be able to stay on the outside at the next level, but teams will have an excellent fallback option at guard if it doesn’t work out. I think the Alabama product is worth a top-15 pick.
Jonah Williams has a tackle name.
Jonah? Meh.
