Strengths
Ideal overall size and length for an offensive tackle. Athletic and powerful. Hands are big and strong. Effective against both power and finesse rushers. Keeps a wide base with good posture in pass protection. Plus awareness to pickup blitzers off the edge. Poised. Has the natural foot quickness to get back against speed rushers and guide them past the quarterback. Mostly plays with desired patience. Solid in the running game. Easily transitions to the second level. Good acceleration as a puller. Can physically dominate smaller defenders. Clearly won the matchup against TCU standout and draft prospect L.J. Collier last season.
Weaknesses
More of a controller than a driver in the running game. Will sometimes lean instead of staying back and using length to his advantage. Needs to be better prepared to stop inside bursts. Looks lost at times when he has no one to block. Currently recovering from quad surgery that could keep him out until training camp.
NFL comparison
Russell Okung – The former No. 6 overall pick is basically the laboratory description of what NFL teams want an offensive tackle to look like, and I think Yodny Cajuste is a lite version of Okung with prototype size/traits.
Conclusion
Overall, Yodny Cajuste is a very good all-around left tackle that would likely be drawing first-round interest if he was healthy. In a class with several Day 1 and Day 2 options that look better suited for the right side, Casjute provides great value as a proven blindside protector.
I thought he was related to Hard Knocks Cajuste for a second haha.
