Strengths

Excellent feet. Great natural mirror skills in press coverage. Fluid flipping his hips. Has experience in press, off-man, or cushion coverage. Intelligent and instinctive. Very quick to react and break on the ball. Explosive and twitchy. Has plus speed to run with receivers on downfield routes. Great ball skills. Plays the ball at the catch point. Has the confidence and strength to defend bigger receivers. Extremely tough and competitive. Willing tackler and very effective for his size. Will fly in to deliver a big hit if given an opportunity. Mostly played left cornerback but has experience lining up at any spot. Showed he can challenge top competition (N’Keal Harry, Marquise Brown, and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside). Brings added value as a returner. High football character.

Weaknesses

Lacks the desired length for a perimeter corner. Can sometimes be caught on his heels in coverage. Doesn’t appear to be as confident in zone coverage.

Conclusion

Overall, Holmes is a competitive and explosive defensive back with experience on the perimeter but an overall skillset to become a top-tier cover man in the slot. A lack of length may cause him to drop, so there is a chance Holmes will be the steal of the draft if he doesn’t go on Day 2.
