Strengths

Great overall awareness and intelligence at left tackle. Prototypical size with good power. Very long and doesn’t overextend when using length. Technically sound in pass protection. Hands are always in position to strike. Has the feet to neutralize speed rushers. Does a nice job guiding edge defenders past the quarterback. Possesses a very powerful punch when needed. Has the strength to anchor against the bull rush. Recognizes stunts and easily switches blocks in pass protection. Moves well in space and hustles to get in on the action. Quick working to the second level. Not nasty but shows a competitive fire. Played great versus top competition. Experience at both tackle spots. Started 15 games as a true freshman at right tackle before moving to the blindside.

Weaknesses

Can do a better job engaging and driving in the running game. Lack of drive may be a result of playing too high. Ends up on the ground too often when run blocking.

Conclusion

Overall, Thomas is phenomenal in pass protection and has the traits to improve in the running game to eventually become one of the best offensive tackles in the league. The class looks deep at the position, but Thomas’ potential makes him worth selecting early in the first round.
