Strengths

Impressive natural accuracy and touch. Quick release despite looping motion. Accurate throwing to all levels of the field. Feathery thrower outside the numbers. Shows promise working through progressions. Above average arm strength and velocity. Very accurate and keeps eyes downfield after escaping the pocket. Can deliver an accurate ball without mechanics being in synch. Throws guys open with a back-shoulder ball. Sees when the safety comes up and will hit a deep ball. Great mobility with innate elusiveness. Recognizes when there is green grass and takes advantage. Effortless speed in the open field. Runs with very good power. Ideal vision/patience on designed runs. Sells play-action fakes on both passes and runs. Elite leadership qualities. Proven winner at two major college football programs. Has made marked improvement from year to year.

Weaknesses

Doesn’t take his check downs enough. Field vision is average as a pocket passer. Overall ball placement could be more consistent. Can improve pocket movement and accuracy when facing pressure. Escapes outside instead of stepping up in the pocket.

Conclusion

Overall, Hurts is a promising dual-threat quarterback that simply wins games and has flashed more than enough accuracy as a passer to be worth considering in the first round. There is still room to improve in the pocket, but Hurts’ skillset could make him a Day 1 starter in the right situation.
