Great overall size with a strong arm. Very mobile with good feet. Release is high and quick. Accurate on slants and quick-strike throws. Has shown natural touch. Throws with above average velocity. Excellent on-the-move accuracy. Ideal ball placement on short throws. Will fit passes into windows against zone coverage. Good pocket presence. Uses an effective pump fake and manipulates defenders with his eyes. Takes care of the football. Usually doesn’t force throws into coverage. Tough and competitive. Will absorb a hit to make a throw. Scrambles to make a play as a passer. Covers ground in space as a runner. Great teammate and leader. Played well in big games.

Inconsistent overall accuracy. Doesn’t quickly scan the field going through progressions. Oregon offense featured plenty of predetermined throws. Downfield passes can be too flat at times. Sometimes wants to throw the fastball too much.

Overall, Herbert is a big, dual-threat quarterback that has flashed natural accuracy, but he will need to be more consistent throwing downfield if he’s going to unlock his full potential. While the mobility and intangibles will likely make Herbert a surefire top-ten pick in April, I think he could benefit from some time to develop as a passer.
