Strengths

Violent, slashing runner. Solid build with plus contact balance. Can rip through arm tackles. Deceptive speed/acceleration with gliding style in space. Great vision in the open field. Good power with a willingness to lower his shoulder. Determined to stay on his feet. Recognizes cutback opportunities. Excellent burst when he sees a hole to run through. Will put his foot in the ground and get north. Usually captures the corner when he bounces runs outside. Has good feet to maneuver in traffic. Uses a side step move. Effective stiff arm. Soft hands. Quality route runner that’s not limited to just swing passes. Very productive in the screen game. Shows flashes of stout pass protection. Hurt by sub-par blocking but still produced. Experienced as a wildcat quarterback.

Weaknesses

Vision behind the line of scrimmage is just OK. Patience is inconsistent. Sometimes runs right into his own lineman. Carries the ball too loosely in space. Needs to be more consistent and aware in pass protection.

Conclusion

Overall, Akers is a violent runner that is tremendous with the ball in his hands and will hopefully benefit from NFL blocking to erase concerns about his natural vision/patience. I think Akers should provide great value as a second-tier running back prospect that should hear his name called relatively early on Day 2.
