Strengths

Very good range in coverage. Intelligent overall player. Natural athleticism. Plays fast and flies around both in coverage and as a run defender. Great feet and overall movement skills. Plus acceleration. Very good in man coverage. Can match up against slot receivers and running backs. Excellent ball skills. Aggressively plays the ball in the air. Willing to come up in the box and mix it up. Good technique as a square-up tackler. Hits and wraps. Very good pursuit as a backside defender. Tries punching the ball out when given the opportunity. Has experience in a variety of different alignments. Former track star at Cal (hurdles).

Weaknesses

Takes a bad angle too often against the run. Comes in hot and will miss tackles. Play recognition is a bit slow in the box. Would like to see him go right after the ball-carrier instead of taking on blocks at times. Recovering from torn adductor muscle injury that required surgery in December.

Conclusion

Overall, Davis projects best as a free safety that can mostly play deep but also has the skillset to come up and defend in man-to-man coverage. In a quality safety class, he should be a solid Day 2 pick with the main selling points being his intelligence and versatility.
