Strengths
Tremendous overall size and length. Very good overall athleticism and feet for his size. Big hands with great reach strength for takedowns. Wraps up with both arms to engulf quarterbacks. Very effective inside swim move. Charging power rush when he gets his hands on and offensive tackle and uses length to drive. Flashes pass-rush moves that can be improved upon. Gets offensive tackles working back and counters inside. Active hands as a rusher. Should be effective on stunts. Plus acceleration and chasedown speed. Hustles to make plays on the perimeter. Can be used with his hand in the dirt or as a stand-up rusher. Comfortable dropping back in coverage. Stays low and athletic. Experience on both sides of the formation. Often faced double teams due to Washington using a three-man rush.
Weaknesses
Needs to have a better attack plan as a rusher. Lacks some bend at the top of his rush. Play recognition is just OK. Could have more strength/anchor setting the edge (blocked too easily by Boise State tight end John Bates). Would like to see him stay square more trying to defeat double teams. Could be more consistently aggressive/physical taking on double teams. One-year starter (2020 opt-out).

Conclusion
Overall, Tryon is a long edge defender with impressive skills to develop into a productive and versatile pass rusher at the next level. He needs to clean some things up, but the upside should make him a quality selection on Day 2.
Was looking forward to Tryon. Getting much buzz.
Marcus Smith. Not great!
