Strengths
Relentless pursuit. Very physical overall player. Stays low and wins with leverage. Outstanding core strength that seems to surprise opponents. Powerful bull rush when he’s able to get his hands inside. Great ability to dip on the corner. Uses a variety of moves with extremely active hands as a rusher. Functional athleticism and bend. Plus burst and closing speed. Aggressively wraps up as a tackler. Plays with violence. Very effective crashing down on the interior. Disruptive on stunts. Impressive strength taking on blocks. Quick to shed. Excellent play recognition. Identifies and chases down outside runs. Can set the edge versus the run. Good speed in the open field to track ball-carriers down. Experience on both sides and playing a variety of techniques. Very productive with 5.5 sacks in six games last season.
Weaknesses
Average/below-average size and length. Tight hips limit change-of-direction skills. Struggles to generate pressure versus size. Benefitted from a lot of crashes/stunts. Seems to already get the most of his skillset and will need to continue winning with effort/craftiness/strength combination rather than pure twitchiness.

Conclusion
Overall, Perkins is a physical and disruptive edge defender that makes plays both against the run and as a pass rusher. The best fit for him projects to be in a 3-4 defense, and Perkins could benefit from beginning his career as a rotational player that brings energy off the bench.
Off the bench energy to start, I like it.
