Strengths
Strong and athletic build. Thick lower half and muscular overall frame. Great length for the interior. Engages and keeps two hands attached to opponents. Huge hands to latch on. Excellent staying connected as a run blocker. Very quick to square up shoulders to gain positioning. High awareness and intelligence. Great eyes and efficiency moving from block to block. Patient sizing up opponents on down blocks. Base is wide and powerful. Quick off the ball in short-yardage situations. Impressive pass sets at left tackle. Extremely strong anchor in pass protection. Doesn’t tip his hand on screen passes. Potential five-position versatility. Full season starter at left tackle (2020) and left guard (2021). Showed clear improvement in 2021 start at left tackle (Virginia Tech). Looked natural at center throughout pre-draft process despite zero snaps there in college. High character and work ethic.
Weaknesses
Wins more with positioning rather than overpowering defenders. Can get too stiff in pass protection. Has some balance issues and ends up on the ground too often. Needs to move feet better at times to protect versus inside moves. A bit slow on perimeter pulls. Average speed and acceleration in space. Struggled more at left tackle versus Patrick Jones II (Pittsburgh 2020).

Conclusion
Overall, Johnson is a strong, polished offensive lineman that best fits on the interior where some of the weaknesses are limited. His position versatility, year-to-year improvement, and character makes him a very good value early on Day 2.
Better than Williamson
One of my favorites.
