Excellent size and catch radius. Very smooth athlete. Extremely fluid in and out of breaks. Advanced vertical route runner and runs routes fast. Creates easy separation on hitches and curls. Pushes vertically before breaking on corner routes. Exceptional hand-eye coordination. Very good speed at his size. Phenomenal ability to track the deep ball and will accelerate to go get it. Made multiple lunging/diving grabs on downfield passes. Gives maximum effort laying out for balls. Often drew pass inference penalties downfield. Impressive release footwork. Great getting his feet down on the boundary. Very comfortable going above the rim to make a play. Routinely reached for receptions at or above his head. Able to contort his body for a grab. Effective when used in the slot. Should be able to run more digs and in-breaking routes. Slippery after the catch underneath. High-end ability as a run blocker. Returned from torn ACL suffered in 2021 spring practice to play final four games.

Thin overall frame. Not as effective through contact if ball isn’t in the ideal spot on contested catch situations. Doesn’t break many tackles and needs to rely more on angles/deceptiveness. Doesn’t always give high-end effort as a run blocker by failing to engage/drive. Maturity issues early in career including ejection for fighting and penalty for squirting water at an opponent on the sideline.

Overall, Pickens is a great vertical weapon that threatens the defense downfield and can also create separation underneath. He could draw at least second-round consideration and has a case to be a first-round pick depending on how teams feel about the character and medical.
