The Jaguars are placing Alfred Blue on injured reserve, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Blue is dealing with an ankle injury suffered in the preseason, but it was said to be just a sprained ankle. Jacksonville presumably wanted to clear a roster spot, and the team is left with the just-claimed Tyler Ervin and rookies Ryquell Armstead (fifth round) and Devine Ozigbo (undrafted and just claimed by the Jags) at running back behind starter Leonard Fournette.
Alfred Blue (ankle) is out for the rest of tonight's preseason game.
Blue was initially called questionable to return, but he's now been ruled out, which was fully expected during a preseason game. Now we just have to hope Blue's injury doesn't keep him out much longer than tonight. Thomas Rawls and rookie Ryquell Armstead will get more reps during Blue's absence.
The Jaguars signed Alfred Blue.
After Blue spent six seasons in Houston as a sixth-round pick out of LSU in the 2014 NFL Draft, he's going over to the AFC South rival Jaguars. Blue is an all-around running back that can play all three downs, as is evident from the fact that he stuck around for six years with the Texans. In Jacksonville, Blue will compete with Thomas Rawls, David Williams, and potentially a rookie for the No. 2 role behind Leonard Fournette.
Alfred Blue gets four touches in playoff loss to the Colts.
Blue carried two times for eight yards and caught two passes for 11 yards, working as the primary backup behind Lamar Miller. The Texans didn't commit much to the running game after falling behind 21-0 in the first half, so Blue didn't get much work in the game. Blue is set to become a free agent this offseason, and he could be an intriguing option for teams looking for a tough north-and-south runner with the ability to carry the load when called upon.
Alfred Blue gets five touches against the Jaguars.
Blue carried three times for 12 yards and caught two passes for 12 yards in the Texans' Week 17 win. Blue's regular season ends with 150 carries for 499 yards and two touchdowns along with 20 receptions for 154 yards. He's a strong backup that will look to do some damage in the postseason starting this Saturday against the Colts.
Alfred Blue gets eight touches against the Eagles.
Blue carried four times for 14 yards and caught four passes for 26 yards in the Texans' Week 16 loss. With Lamar Miller out, the workload was disappointing, especially with D'Onta Foreman getting seven carries (for -1 yard) in his first game of the season. Blue would not be a recommended fantasy option even if Miller remains out next week against the Jags.
Alfred Blue handles 11 touches in Week 15 win.
Blue rushed nine times for six yards and caught two passes for nine yards. The LSU product operated as the team's lead back as Lamar Miller (ankle) left the game in the first half, but he didn't find much running room. If Blue draws the start next week, he will be a decent FLEX option in Philadelphia.
Alfred Blue scores in loss to the Colts.
Blue rushed six times for 21 yards, including a three-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The LSU product has produced as the clear No. 2 to Lamar Miller, but his workload could be scaled back down the stretch if D'Onta Foreman gets involved. Either way, fantasy owners can probably do better for Week 15.
Alfred Blue handles 13 carries in win over the Browns.
Blue rushed 13 times for 54 yards, as he continues to be involved behind Lamar Miller in a run-heavy approach for Houston. The LSU product doesn't have a ton of upside and hasn't scored since the opener, but he warrants consideration in deeper leagues for the fantasy playoffs.
Alfred Blue handles 14 touches in win over the Titans.
Blue rushed 13 times for 49 yards, also adding a 13-yard reception. The LSU product actually led the backfield in carries, but it was starter Lamar Miller (12 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown) that ran wild in large part due to a 97-yard score. Look for Blue to remain involved, but he's not a strong fantasy play in Week 13.
Alfred Blue gets eight carries in Week 11.
Blue again ran the ball well for the Texans, gaining 46 yards on his eight attempts against the Colts. However, Lamar Miller (23 touches) remains the clear No. 1 running back for Houston, so Blue isn't a recommended fantasy option at the moment.
Alfred Blue leads the team in carries as Houston wins sixth game in a row.
Blue rushed 15 times for 39 yards in the victory, as starter Lamar Miller (12 carries for 21 yards) wasn't able to get going on his touches. The LSU product shouldn't be owned heading into the bye week, but Sunday's split is something to keep in mind down the stretch, particularly in deeper leagues.
Alfred Blue handles 15 carries in win over the Dolphins.
Blue rushed 15 times for 42 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game. It was Lamar Miller that ran wild with 133 yards and a score on 18 attempts, but Blue got his fair share of work. Still, the LSU product isn't anything more than a decent FLEX option in deeper leagues while operating as a change-of-pace back, and that includes next Sunday in Denver.
Alfred Blue gets eight carries in Week 7.
Blue gained 28 yards on his eight attempts against the Jaguars, while teammate Lamar Miller continued getting more carries, this game acting as a workhorse with 22 attempts (for 100 yards and a touchdown). For fantasy purposes, Blue is just a handcuff for Miller or a deep-league FLEX option at the moment.
Alfred Blue handles nine touches in win over the Bills.
Blue rushed seven times for 26 yards and caught two-of-three targets for 17 yards. The veteran got a spot start last week and performed admirably, but Lamar Miller returned to the lineup and led the backfield with 17 touches on Sunday. Blue could see his standalone value increase if he continues impressing while Miller struggles, but he should stay out of fantasy lineups against Jacksonville next week.
Alfred Blue gets 28 touches against the Cowboys.
Lamar Miller (chest) was officially active for the game but did not play at less than 100%, so Blue was a workhorse for the Texans in their overtime win. Blue carried 20 times for 46 yards and added eight receptions (on eight targets) for 73 yards. It was tough sledding on the ground, as the offensive line couldn't open up holes against Dallas' defense. Miller should be ready to go for Week 7 against the Bills, but Blue will still have a role on offense.
Alfred Blue gets 13 carries in Texans' win.
Blue split the workload evenly with Lamar Miller (14 carries for 49 yards), gaining 31 yards on his 13 rushing attempts. The Colts played the Texans tough against the run, but Blue ran the ball hard as usual. Through four games, Blue is on pace for 112 carries, 464 yards, and four touchdowns along with four receptions for 16 yards. Blue is not a recommended fantasy option as long as Miller remains on the field.
Alfred Blue gets five touches in Week 3.
Blue had four carries for 13 yards and one reception for four yards against the Giants. The Texans didn't run the ball well, and starter Lamar Miller had just ten yards on ten carries. Perhaps the winless Texans will try to run Blue more against the Colts next week to set the tone and pick up a win, but he's difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.
Alfred Blue carries seven times in Texans' loss.
Blue ran well, gaining 36 yards on his seven attempts. He's currently not getting enough work to deliver fantasy value, so Blue is just a good real-life contributor for the Texans for now.
Alfred Blue scores in Week 1 loss.
As he did last season, Blue worked in the Texans backfield and delivered some juice off the bench as a strong downhill runner. Blue carried five times for 36 yards and a touchdown while working behind starter Lamar Miller. Blue isn't a recommended fantasy option in standard-sized leagues as long as Miller remains healthy, but he's a very good contributor for the Texans.
The Texans have re-signed running back Alfred Blue.
Houston did not draft any running backs late last week, and they've always liked Blue, so this makes a ton of sense. Blue has spent each of his first four seasons with the Texans, and he's a pretty good bet to make the roster and make it five straight years. While Blue runs hard when given opportunities, he's not a recommended fantasy option behind Lamar Miller and D'Onta Foreman at the moment.
Alfred Blue leads backfield with 22 touches in season finale.
Blue rushed 18 times for 39 yards and a touchdown, adding four receptions for 36 yards. The former LSU runner had a strong finish to the 2017 campaign, and he ended up with 262 rushing yards and one score on 71 attempts. An unrestricted free agent this offseason, Blue will look to earn a backup role for 2018.
Alfred Blue goes over 100 yards in Christmas Day loss.
Blue rushed 16 times for 108 yards in a 34-6 defeat, as he was basically the lone bright spot for Houston on Monday. The 26-year-old out-carried and out-gained Lamar Miller (55 yards on 10 attempts), and he showed good vision and power against the Steelers. Look for him to have a nice role next week in the season finale, but he won't be much more than a weak FLEX option.
Alfred Blue leads the Texans in Week 15 rushing.
Blue received most of the backfield work in a lopsided win for the Jaguars, carrying 12 times for 55 yards. Overall, he ran the ball well, but Blue probably won't get as many opportunities in closer games. He's not a recommended FLEX for Christmas day against the Steelers.
Alfred Blue remains in concussion protocol.
Blue didn't practice today, and it's unclear if he's made any progress in the protocol. It's possible Blue is ruled out tomorrow.
Alfred Blue (concussion) does not practice.
Blue is in concussion protocol and will need to get cleared if he's going to backup Lamar Miller this weekend. Hopefully he's feeling OK soon.
Alfred Blue gets five touches against the Titans.
Blue carried four times for two yards and added one reception for seven yards, where he lowered his shoulder to push for a first down. Blue is an excellent backup behind Lamar Miller, but his role isn't big enough to be a viable fantasy option.
Alfred Blue gets ten touches versus Baltimore.
Blue carried eight times for 15 yards and added two reception for 11 yards in the Week 12 loss. The fourth-year back had to handle the backfield work at the end of the first half when Lamar Miller left with an injury, but he couldn't find much room to run against the stingy run defense of the Ravens. Blue is just a handcuff to Miller, who returned to the game and appears to be fine moving forward.
Alfred Blue gets four carries in Week 10.
Blue ran hard with his opportunities late in the game against the Rams, but he gained only ten yards on his four attempts. Blue isn't on the fantasy radar as long as Lamar Miller remains on the field for the Texans.
Alfred Blue gets five carries in Week 8.
Blue gained 21 yards on his five attempts, and he was in the game over rookie D'Onta Foreman, which could continue moving forward. Blue also delivered a great block to spring quarterback Deshaun Watson for a first down on a scramble. He's a good player and contributor, but Blue isn't a recommended fantasy option.
Alfred Blue carries five times in Week 2 of the preseason.
Blue had 20 yards against New England in the exhibition. Currently, Blue is the number two behind Lamar Miller; but rookie D'Onta Foreman has been very impressive so far and could be challenging for that spot. Foreman probably offers higher upside as the handcuff to Miller.
Alfred Blue scores against the Panthers in preseason game.
Blue had five carries for 33 yards, along with a seven-yard reception working as the clear second running back for Houston. The 26-year-old running back looked very good on his runs and looks like he could be poised to again be the primary backup behind Lamar Miller this year.
Alfred Blue had 11 carries for 28 yards and three receptions for 12 yards in the regular season finale.
Blue ends his regular season with 100 carries for 420 yards and a touchdown, with 12 receptions for 40 yards. Lamar Miller (ankle) is expected to be good for the playoffs, but if not then Blue will start for the Texans.
Alfred Blue totals 90 yards filling in for Lamar Miller.
With Lamar Miller (ankle) inactive, Blue had 17 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown, with four catches for 17 yards. The touchdown was a 24-yarder from the shotgun that Blue made one cut on and was basically untouched on his way to the endzone. Those that inserted Blue into their lineups were rewarded with this performance. With the Texans locked into a playoff spot as the AFC South winners, Lamar Miller may give his ankle more time to heal again in Week 17. If he does, Blue would be an RB2.
Alfred Blue sees 16 carries in win.
With the Texans going to a ground-and-pound offense in a key divisional matchup with the Colts, Blue rushed 16 times for 55 yards. Houston should and is expected to use a similar approach for next week against the Jaguars, so Blue actually has some standalone FLEX value behind Lamar Miller.
Blue breaks 25-yard run in Texans loss.
With Lamar Miller struggling on the ground and missing a little time with a rib injury, Blue had five carries for 38 yards against Green Bay. He had a series where he ripped off a couple nice runs in a row. Blue isn't really a fantasy option right now (he had under ten snaps in the entire game), but would become a solid RB2 if Lamar Miller missed any time.
Alfred Blue leaves game, re-enters vs Jaguars.
Blue left the game briefly for a calf injury, but he should be good moving forward after returning to the game. He had seven carries for 23 yards. Akeem Hunt also got some action at running back and played well, but Blue is likely safe as the Texans' backup RB. He's averaging 4.9 yards per carry this season. He isn't a fantasy option unless Lamar Miller misses time.
