WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Brent Celek | Retired TE

Brent Celek has officially retired from the NFL.

It's been known for a bit now that the long-time Eagles tight end was going to retire, but he made it official this morning with an announcement and a letter to the fans. Celek says he's "very much at peace with this decision," which isn't a surprise considering he had a very solid career that he was able to spend with one team, culminating in a Super Bowl victory in his last game. Celek caught 398 passes for 4,998 yards and 31 touchdowns in 11 NFL seasons, and he also became one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL particularly in the last few years of his career. We wish Celek luck in his post-playing life.

The Eagles have released tight end Brent Celek.

Despite being due $5 million in 2018, this is a somewhat surprising move for the franchise's longest-tenured player. There was talk Celek would retire after winning the Super Bowl, but he said he wants to continue playing, and the either the Eagles didn't offer a pay cut or he refused to take one. There's a chance he returns to Philadelphia on a lesser deal, but other teams will likely be interested in Celek's services as a great blocking tight end.

Brent Celek doesn't catch a pass in NFC Championship victory.

The veteran tight end won't care that he didn't catch a pass, as the longest tenured Eagle will be heading to Super Bowl LII to face the Patriots. Celek is a sleeper to make an impact in the Big Game in a couple of weeks.

Brent Celek catches one pass in playoff win over Atlanta.

The veteran tight end gained six yards on his lone reception, and he'll now be back in the NFC Championship next week against either New Orleans or Minnesota.

Brent Celek | Retired TE

Brent Celek catches three passes in Eagles' loss.

Celek gained 13 yards on his three receptions. He'll now look to help the Eagles get a playoff win in a couple weekends.

Brent Celek | Retired TE

Brent Celek catches one pass in Week 16 win.

It went for 12 yards. Celek isn't a fantasy option in Week 17 whether or not Zach Ertz plays with the top seed in the NFC locked up for Philadelphia, but Trey Burton would be a TE1.

Brent Celek scores in Week 14.

Helping fill in for Zach Ertz (concussion), Celek caught an early touchdown for five yards on a pass to the flat. It was Celek's only reception of the day, but it's good to see him step up when needed for his team. The veteran tight end isn't a reliable fantasy option, even if Ertz misses another game.

Brent Celek catches long pass in Week 11.

On a third-and-short, Celek was wide open after a play-action fake and ran for a 28-yard gain. It was a clutch play that eventually led to an Eagles touchdown later in the drive. Celek can make plays, but his role isn't big enough to be a fantasy factor.

Brent Celek catches three of four targets against the Broncos.

With Zach Ertz (hamstring) inactive, the veteran tight end got his most extensive work of the season in Week 9, gaining 39 yards on his three receptions. Celek shows he still has it, and he's a valuable player that shows the depth of the Eagles at tight end. However, he's doesn't need to be on fantasy rosters at the moment.

Brent Celek catches one pass against the Redskins.

The veteran tight end was targeted twice, and he caught a screen that he took for three yards on a play the Redskins apparently weren't surprised by. Celek is a good team leader and will chip in for the Eagles, but he's not on the fantasy radar.

Brent Celek caught three passes for 27 yards in a win over the Giants.

Celek has only 13 catches on the year, and isn't a fantasy option.
