Chase Daniel | Chargers QB

Chase Daniel is re-signing with the Chargers.

Daniel is returning on a one-year deal to backup Justin Herbert, and he'll be a veteran for the young quarterback to continue leaning on. The 35-year-old last made a start with the Bears in 2019.

The Chargers are signing Chase Daniel.

Daniel will be a veteran/mentor type of presence for Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert to utilize this season. Daniel is familiar with both Chargers head coach Brandon Staley and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, so this is a natural fit for all parties.

The Lions released Chase Daniel.

There was talk that Daniel was a trade candidate, but it was not to be, and the Lions have opted to release him. The veteran quarterback shouldn't have any trouble landing with another team as a potential mentor to a young quarterback, though perhaps he'll wait until after the draft to sign.

The Lions are signing Chase Daniel, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Daniel goes over from one NFC North team (the Bears) to another in a slightly surprising move, though Chicago has been linked to other veteran quarterbacks to push current starter Mitchell Trubisky. Daniel helps give Detroit more insurance behind franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Chase Daniel | Chargers QB

Chase Daniel throws two interceptions in Bears' loss.

Daniel was 26/39 for 285 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against the Giants. He also had four fumbles (but none lost) in the Week 13 loss. Daniel held the ball too long at times, but the Giants got pressure on him to make things difficult. The touchdown was a short one at the goal line to Adam Shaheen, and Daniel made some more good throws throughout the game including a dime to Tarik Cohen down the right sideline on a wheel route late in the fourth quarter to help set up a game-tying touchdown to send the game to overtime. Hopefully Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder) is OK for a Sunday night matchup against the Rams in Week 14, and Daniel would not be a recommended fantasy option if forced to make a third straight start.

Chase Daniel leads Chicago to 23-16 victory over the Lions on Thanksgiving.

In a spot start for Mitchell Trubisky (shoulder), Daniel was 22/37 for 230 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions, also adding four carries for four yards and an eight-yard reception. The veteran backup showed good command of the offense all afternoon to help the Bears improve to 8-3, but the team should have Trubisky back under center for Week 13 against the Giants. If not, Daniel would again be worth considering as a QB2 streamer.

Chase Daniel | Chargers QB

The Bears have officially signed Chase Daniel.

Daniel has familiarity with Matt Nagy's offense from his time in Kansas City, so he'll help Mitchell Trubisky learn the offense the same way he helped Carson Wentz learn Doug Pederon's offense in Philadelphia a couple years ago. Trubisky is the person this move should benefit the most, but Daniel also provides a steady hand off the bench if he's called into action.

The Bears are expected to sign Chase Daniel, according to Peter Schrager.

Daniel is familiar with Bears head coach Matt Nagy from Nagy's time as the Chiefs' quarterbacks coach when Daniel was there from 2013-2015, so the connection is there. The 31-year-old will be a solid backup option for Mitchell Trubisky, and he'll help the second-year quarterback learn the new offense. This situation is similar to the one Carson Wentz went through in Philadelphia, when Daniel was signed as a backup during Doug Pederson's first year as the Eagles head coach (Pederson was previously in Kansas City with Daniel as the offensive coordinator). This deal cannot become official until the start of the new league year at 4:00 PM ET.

Chase Daniel | Chargers QB

The Saints are going to sign quarterback Chase Daniel, according to Adam Schefter.

Daniel will compete to backup Drew Brees, and he should be the favorite to do so. Daniel spent his first four years in the league with the Saints. This might eliminate the Saints as a team that could sign Johnny Manziel.

Chase Daniel is visiting the Jets, according to Adam Schefter.

Daniel wants to start, and the Jets would give him the best chance to compete for a starting job.

Chase Daniel | Chargers QB

Chase Daniel is visiting the Saints, according to Adam Caplan.

Daniel spent his first four season in the NFL with the Saints. If signed, Daniel would get a chance to compete for the backup job behind Drew Brees.

Chase Daniel | Chargers QB

The Eagles have officially released quarterback Chase Daniel.

Daniel is now free to sign with whoever he wants. He wants a starting role, but he'll likely be hard pressed to find anything more than a backup role.

Chase Daniel | Chargers QB

Chase Daniel will ask for his release, according to multiple reports.

The Eagles are expected to let him go. Daniel is likely very unhappy with the Eagles after he was the presumed number two quarterback heading into last season then was leapfrogged by then-rookie Carson Wentz when Sam Bradford was traded to the Vikings before the season. Now, the Eagles brought in Nick Foles to be the backup quarterback. Daniel should get a backup role somewhere when he's released.
