WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

E.J. Manuel | Retired QB

E.J. Manuel has retired from the NFL.

Manuel signed with the Chiefs earlier this offseason, but the 29-year-old is calling it a career after six NFL seasons (five on the active roster making game appearances). Manuel was selected in the first round by the Bills in the 2013 draft, and he played four seasons in Buffalo before joining the Raiders in 2017. He was the first quarterback taken in that 2013 draft class, which was considered one of the weakest quarterback classes in recent memory, going 16th overall to the Bills. Manuel really didn't land in an ideal spot, and he played pretty well all things considered throughout his career—he just didn't get a ton of help, which didn't make it easy for him to perform like a first-rounder. Manuel's career ends with 3,767 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, and 16 interceptions along with 339 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns in 30 games (18 starts). We wish the Florida State product the best of luck in his post-playing life.

The Chiefs signed quarterback E.J. Manuel.

Manuel wasn't on an NFL roster during the regular season in 2018, as he was released by the Raiders after they traded for A.J. McCarron before the season. The former first-round pick will likely get a legitimate shot to win the backup job behind Patrick Mahomes, and landing with Andy Reid is a good spot for him, but obviously he's off the fantasy radar right now.

The Raiders released E.J. Manuel.

After the team acquired A.J. McCarron from the Bills, they decided to part ways with both Connor Cook and Manuel. Gruden was unhappy with the play of both former backup quarterbacks, so this isn't a surprise. Expect McCarron to enter the season as Derek Carr's backup.

The Raiders re-signed quarterback E.J. Manuel, according to Field Yates.

Considering the Raiders also signed Josh Johnson and still have Connor Cook—who new head coach Jon Gruden seems to really like coming out of Michigan State—on the roster, the backup quarterback competition should be wide open for Oakland this season. Manuel played pretty well in limited action when Derek Carr was out with his back issue last season, and he'll have a legit chance to be the backup in 2018.

E.J. Manuel | Retired QB

E.J. Manuel was 13/26 for 159 yards and one touchdown in his first start of the season.

Manuel had a tough draw with the Ravens, and the Raiders lost 30-17. Things didn't get started positively for Oakland's offense when Jared Cook fumbled on the team's first possession and Baltimore returned it for a touchdown, and the Ravens were able to control the ball on Sunday. Derek Carr apparently pushed to play in Week 5, so he could return as soon as Week 6 against the Chargers. If Manuel gets another start, he's not a recommended fantasy option.

E.J. Manuel | Retired QB

E.J. Manuel looks good in relief of Derek Carr, but throws game-ending interception.

Manuel was 11/17 for 106 and the pick, which was a jump ball that Amari Cooper simply lost, though it could have been thrown a little more outside. The former first-round pick looked poised and comfortable in a tough environment, displaying good accuracy and moving the offense in obvious passing situations. Derek Carr should hopefully be good for next week's matchup with the Ravens, but it was a promising performance by Manuel should he be forced into action again.

E.J. Manuel | Retired QB

E.J. Manuel starts first preseason game for the Raiders.

Derek Carr and the starters did not play for Oakland. Manuel was 10/12 for 107 yards, looking comfortable in the offense. He's in the clear lead over second-year quarterback Connor Cook for the backup job behind Carr.

E.J. Manuel | Retired QB

The Raiders signed E.J. Manuel, according to Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported the Raiders were expected to sign Manuel and now it's happening. Manuel will likely compete with Connor Cook for the backup job behind Derek Carr.

E.J. Manuel | Retired QB

The Raiders are expected to sign quarterback E.J. Manuel, according to Adam Schefter.

Oakland has Connor Cook on the roster, but they might want another quarterback in the mix for the backup job. Manuel has good physical tools that teams like.

E.J. Manuel starts for Bills, but doesn't finish the game.

Manuel was 9/20 for 86 yards, then rookie Cardale Jones got time in the finale. Manuel has shown flashes, and while he likely won't be with the Bills in 2017, someone should want him as their backup quarterback.

E.J. Manuel will start the Bills' season finale against the Jets, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter

According to Schefter, the Bills don't want to risk an injury to Tyrod Taylor and be on the hook for $30 million next season. Manuel has not been bad at all in his time as the Bills' starter and will get a chance to have an audition against the Jets. The Bills next head coach will likely decide the quarterback in 2017.
