WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Lance Dunbar | Free Agent RB

The Rams released running back Lance Dunbar.

Dunbar had a knee injury that limited him to just four games during the regular season, and he just never became a big part of an offense dominated by Todd Gurley. Dunbar is only 28 and will get interest as a solid receiver out of the backfield.

Lance Dunbar scores in Week 17 loss.

Dunbar rushed six times for 20 yards and a touchdown, also adding a one-yard reception. The former Cowboys back was pegged as the Chris Thompson in Sean McVay's offense, but Sunday was actually the first time he caught a pass all season. Appearing in just four games, Dunbar rushed 11 times for 51 yards and a score in 2017. He probably won't be a factor in the postseason.

Lance Dunbar | Free Agent RB

Lance Dunbar plays well in 2017 debut.

Dunbar was on the PUP list and missed the first eight games of the season, but he was practicing for the last couple of weeks and got out there against the Texans. Dunbar carried five times for 31 yards in the Rams victory. With Todd Gurley playing outstanding as a receiver out of the backfield, Dunbar might not have the role he might've had if he was healthy all season—but he'll still mix in as a change of pace behind Gurley and is another added weapon to a stacked Rams offense.

Lance Dunbar is expected to start the regular season on the PUP list.

The Rams free agent acquisition has a knee injury and has not been able to get healthy. Head coach Sean McVay expects his receiving back to be on the PUP, which will force him to miss the first six weeks of the season. This means Todd Gurley will be a three-down back, and it gives Gurley a boost in PPR leagues. Gurley is a fine second-round pick in fantasy drafts as someone that offers elite upside.

Lance Dunbar is out indefinitely with a knee injury.

He has been placed on the PUP list. It's unclear the extent of the injury, but he was expected to be the passing-down back for Sean McVay. If Dunbar ends up being out for a while, Todd Gurley could end up being the guy in passing situations as well. The Rams could also opt to bring in another back if Dunbar's knee injury is serious.

The Rams placed running back Lance Dunbar on the PUP list.

It's unclear why Dunbar is on the PUP, but he can be taken off at any time. Dunbar is expected to fill a Chris Thompson-type role in Sean McVay's offense.

Lance Dunbar may have a passing down role with the Rams, according to ESPN.

During Dunbar's visit with the Rams, head coach Sean McVay compared and brought up the name Chris Thompson to Dunbar. Thompson had a nice role with the Redskins while McVay was the offensive coordinator. Dunbar could become a valuable PPR player this season. Thompson was a great asset at times in 2017, in both standard and PPR leagues. Dunbar clearly has the skill set to translate into the role. This could theoretically be bad news for Todd Gurley's fantasy value next season, but Gurley should still get more than enough touches to put up good numbers.
