The Panthers are signing Rod Smith.
The veteran provides versatility at fullback, and he will compete for a roster spot for Carolina this summer.
The Raiders re-signed Rod Smith.
Smith spent time in Oakland last year and will hope to make the roster this summer as the team moves to Las Vegas. The 28-year-old is unlikely to have fantasy value behind workhorse Josh Jacobs and receiving back Jalen Richard, but he’s at least a name to keep in mind after flashing talent in previous years with the Cowboys.
The Raiders signed Rod Smith.
With Josh Jacobs (shoulder) hurting, Oakland is adding more depth at running back. Smith doesn't figure to get enough work to be a fantasy option over the final three games of the season.
The Titans waived Rod Smith.
Smith played three games for the Titans, but he did not appear on offense and instead contributed on special teams. The Ohio State product should land with another team soon.
The Titans signed Rod Smith.
Smith played in 48 games with the Cowboys from 2015 to 2018 and was recently with the Giants, and the Titans are adding him to the backfield mix behind Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis. The Ohio State product is not a recommended fantasy pickup, but he's an interesting add for Tennessee in real life.
The Giants placed Rod Smith (adductor) I’m injured reserve.
Perhaps an injury settlement can be reached at some point so the former Cowboy can sign elsewhere, but he’s off the fantasy radar at the moment.
The Giants signed Rod Smith.
Smith struggled some last season with the Cowboys, averaging just 2.9 yards per attempt (on 44 carries) a season after he averaged 4.2 yards per carry (on 55 carries) with four touchdowns and 202 receiving yards at 10.6 yards per reception while helping fill in for a suspended Ezekiel Elliott. The 27-year-old running back is an all-around player that can make big plays and contribute on special teams, and he'll look to win a spot behind Saquon Barkley with the Giants this season.
Rod Smith gets one carry in playoff win over the Seahawks.
Smith gained one yard on his lone attempt in the Cowboy's Wild Card victory. The carry came with under three minutes to go as he spelled Ezekiel Elliott for a carry. Elliott is handling almost all the backfield work for Dallas heading into the Divisional Round.
Rod Smith scores against the Giants.
Smith carried 12 times for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys Week 17 win, as he filled in for Ezekiel Elliott (rest). Smith's season ends with 44 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown along with nine receptions for 60 yards. He couldn't get in much of a groove with not much playing time behind Zeke, but he'll look to make an impact in the postseason for Dallas.
Rod Smith gets two carries in Week 16.
Smith had -7 yards on his two attempts against the Bucs. Smith could get a nice workload next week depending on how the Cowboys play things locked into the No. 4 seed, so he's worth a look as a waiver-wire pickup
Rod Smith gets three carries against the Colts.
Smith gained 14 yards on his three attempts while mixing in for Ezekiel Elliott. For fantasy purposes, Smith is just a handcuff to Elliott entering championship weeks.
Rod Smith handles six touches in win over the Eagles.
Smith rushed four times for 27 yards and caught two passes for 16 yards. The Ohio State product is just a handcuff to Ezekiel Elliott, but he saw more work on Sunday as Dallas ran nearly 100 plays. The Cowboys take on the Colts next week.
Rod Smith rushed three times for two yards in Thursday night's win over the Saints.
Smith only saw the field when Ezekiel Elliott (29 touches) needed a breather, and that should remain the case next week against the Eagles. The Ohio State product is just a handcuff that doesn't need to be owned.
Rod Smith gets two carries in Cowboys' win.
Smith gained seven yards on his two attempts against the Redskins. He left the game with what looked like a stinger, but hopefully he's OK moving forward. Smith is not a fantasy option behind Ezekiel Elliott.
Rod Smith gets three touches in Week 11.
Smith carried once for no yards and caught two passes for eight yards against the Falcons. As long as Ezekiel Elliott is on the field, Smith isn't a recommended fantasy option.
Rod Smith handles three touches in win over the Eagles.
Smith rushed twice for eight yards and caught his only target for 14 yards. Ezekiel Elliott's backup is capable of doing damage when given a chance, but there's no reason for Dallas to go away from their offensive centerpiece for anything other than a breather down the stretch. Smith is just a handcuff.
Rod Smith handles one touch in loss to the Titans.
It was an eight-yard reception, as the Ohio State product didn't receive a carry behind Ezekiel Elliott. Smith is just a handcuff for the 3-5 Cowboys heading into a key matchup against the Eagles.
Rod Smith gets five carries in Week 6.
Smith couldn't find much room to run against the Jaguars, gaining just four yards on his five attempts. Smith remains just a handcuff to Ezekiel Elliott for fantasy purposes.
Rod Smith rushed three times for ten yards in Sunday night's loss to the Texans.
He wasn't targeted in the passing game. Smith is just a handcuff that doesn't need to be owned with the Cowboys lacking their usual dominance up front. Dallas will look to avoid 2-4 against Jacksonville next Sunday.
Rod Smith gets five touches against the Lions.
Smith had six carries for 22 yards and one reception for no yards in the Week 5 win. Smith is an excellent backup to Ezekiel Elliott, but he's not a recommended fantasy option as long as Zeke remains on the field.
Rod Smith handles one touch in season opener.
Smith rushed once for five yards in the 16-8 loss to Carolina. He is just a handcuff that doesn't need to be owned with the Cowboys' offensive line looking vulnerable.
Rod Smith operates as Zeke's backup in Week 16 loss.
Smith rushed twice for 10 yards and caught three passes for 23 yards. The stat line is notable because he's the only running back to receive a touch other than Elliott in his return, so it looks like Smith could have the inside track as the change-of-pace option in 2018. Unless Zeke is rested in a meaningless Week 17 game, Smith won't be a recommended fantasy option.
Rod Smith scores in Cowboys’ win.
Smith couldn’t get much going on the ground, but he received a goal line opportunity that he converted for Dallas. Overall, Smith had seven rushing attempts for 13 yards and a touchdown while also adding three receptions (on three targets) for 21 yards. Smith’s role will decrease with Ezekiel Elliott’s return, but it’s possible he gets more work than Alfred Morris moving forward. He’s not a recommended fantasy option, though.
Rod Smith has monster game in Week 14 win.
Smith had six carries for 47 yards and a touchdown while adding five receptions (on five targets) for 113 yards and a touchdown through the air. While Alfred Morris (19 carries) received more work on the ground, Smith did a lot of damage with his touches against the Giants. The best play was an 81-yard touchdown on a slant route from the slot, as he easily beat the linebacker and sprinted up the middle of the field to the end zone. Especially in PPR leagues, Smith is worth FLEX consideration next week against Oakland.
Rod Smith scores against the Redskins.
Smith worked as a change-of-pace behind Alfred Morris, carrying ten times for 27 yards and a touchdown. The score came late on a carry by the goal line. Morris is running very well right now and will remain the lead ball-carrier in Ezekiel Elliott's absence, so Smith isn't a recommended fantasy option right now.
Rod Smith scores against the Chargers.
Smith carried nine times in the Thanksgiving loss, gaining 41 yards with a touchdown while also adding two receptions for seven yards. Alfred Morris received only nine carries, but the Cowboys were down for the entire game. Smith will be in the FLEX conversation for Week 13, but he's a better option in PPR leagues.
Rod Smith contained in loss to the Eagles.
Smith rushed eight times for 11 yards and wasn't a factor in the passing game. The 25-year-old was the only running back besides Alfred Morris to receive a touch, but Morris was clearly the lead man and much more effective. Smith is just a weak FLEX option against the Chargers on Thanksgiving.
Rod Smith handles seven touches in loss to the Falcons.
Smith rushed three times for 14 yards and caught four passes for 15 yards. Alfred Morris was the clear lead ball-carrier, but Smith's seven touches showed he is clearly ahead of Darren McFadden, who had just one carry. Consider Smith a short-term handcuff to Morris with standalone appeal in deeper leagues. The Cowboys host the Eagles next Sunday night.
Rod Smith sees nine touches in blowout victory.
Smith rushed eight times for 61 yards and caught a five-yard pass. The brother of linebacker Jaylon Smith, Rod only had two carries for eight yards heading into Sunday's game, but the 40-3 score allowed him to get some playing time. Fantasy owners handcuffing Zeke probably shouldn't panic, as Alfred Morris and Darren McFadden are fully expected to lead a committee if Elliott's suspension kicks in.
Rod Smith gets 21 touches in Hall of Fame Game.
The 2015 undrafted running back from Ohio State, and brother of Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith, played hard and took advantage of his touches in the game. He had 18 carries for 64 yards and three receptions for 25 yards. Smith has reportedly been having a good camp, and his versatility as a running back could help him make the final roster.
