Shane Vereen will work for FOX Sports this year.
Vereen is joining FOX's college football coverage, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post. Perhaps Vereen will make a return to the playing field at some point, but consider him retired for now. Vereen played four seasons for the Patriots and three for the Giants, totaling 356 carries for 1,489 yards and eight touchdowns along with 221 receptions for 1,864 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 2011 second-round pick from Cal also caught 11 passes for 64 yards in the Patriots' Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seahawks. We wish Vereen the best of luck with his college football coverage with FOX.
The Saints have placed Shane Vereen (finger) on injured reserve.
Vereen had a chance at an early-season role with Mark Ingram suspended, but that obviously won’t be the case. The team might go with Boston Scott as the main compliment to Alvin Kamara in Week 1 if they don’t bring in outside help.
The Saints are signing Shane Vereen, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
The former Patriots and Giants running back is coming off a 44-catch season with the Giants, but he only averaged 5.8 yards per reception (by far a career low). The veteran will have a chance to compete for a roster spot, and there's basically an extra running-back spot open with Mark Ingram suspended to start the regular season. At the very least, Vereen could be a good example for second-year back Alvin Kamara throughout the summer.
Shane Vereen rushed three times for 14 yards in Sunday's win over the Redskins.
Vereen didn't catch a pass. It was a year to forget for New York as a whole, but the former Patriot probably had an especially hard time for the 3-13 Giants. Vereen finishes the season with 45 carries for 164 yards and 44 receptions for 253 yards, and he didn't find the end zone for the first time in his career. A free-agent-to-be, Vereen's fantasy status next year will depend on where he ends up and in what kind of role.
Shane Vereen gets ten touches in Week 15.
Vereen had five carries for 15 yards and five receptions for 15 yards in a loss to the Eagles. It was an even performance by Vereen on a day the Giants threw the ball 57 times. Even in PPR leagues, Vereen is risky in fantasy championships next week against Arizona.
Shane Vereen gets nine touches against the Cowboys.
Vereen had 23 rushing yards on six attempts and 24 receiving yards on three receptions. It looks like rookie Wayne Gallman could take over as an all-puporse guy over the final three games of the season, but Vereen wasn't a fantasy option right now anyway.
Shane Vereen gets four touches against the Raiders.
Vereen had one carry for -3 yards and three receptions for 13 yards. He's not even on the fantasy radar in PPR leagues at the moment.
Shane Vereen gets three carries in Week 12.
Vereen gained 18 yards on his three attempts and didn't catch any passes against the Redskins. He's not even a recommended PPR option at the moment, so Vereen doesn't need to be on fantasy rosters.
Shane Vereen throws interception against the Chiefs.
The Giants attempted a halfback pass with Vereen, but it didn't work out and was easily picked by the Chiefs. Vereen also had two carries for 13 yards and three receptions for 15 yards. Vereen isn't a fantasy option in either standard or PPR leagues.
Shane Vereen contained as Giants fall to 1-8.
Vereen rushed five times for 11 yards and caught four passes for 27 yards. The receiving back isn't fantasy relevant right now. New York will look to avoid 1-9 next week against the Chiefs.
Shane Vereen sees just three touches in loss to the Rams.
Vereen caught three passes for 14 yards. He did not record a carry. If he wasn't on the waiver wire before, he belongs there now, as Vereen could even get going in a game that New York lost 51-17. The Giants are 1-7 heading into a matchup with the winless 49ers.
Shane Vereen gets five touches against the Seahawks.
Vereen picked up four rushing yards on two carries and two receiving yards on three receptions. He should have some more room to do some damage when the Giants return form their Week 8 bye to face the Rams in a couple weeks.
Shane Vereen gets one carry in Week 6.
Vereen gained four yards on his only attempt and surprisingly wasn’t involved in the passing game. Eli Manning will probably look his way in some games over the rest of the season, but he’s not a reliable option in Week 7 against Seattle.
Shane Vereen gets nine touches in Week 5.
Vereen carried five times for 18 yards and caught four passes for 27 yards against the Chargers. With Odell Beckham Jr. out for a while with a fractured ankle, Vereen could see more targets in the passing game. He's worth a pickup if available in PPR leagues.
Shane Vereen gets six touches in Week 4.
Vereen had five carries for 14 yards and one reception for 11 yards. He's just a PPR option, as he's on pace for 60 catches through four games.
Shane Vereen is not on the injury report for Week 4.
After missing Wednesday and Thursday with a calf injury, Vereen was a limited participant in practice today and is apparently ready to go for Sunday against the Bucs. He's just a FLEX option in PPR leagues.
Shane Vereen (calf) did not practice today.
It's just the first day of practice for the week, so there's no reason to be concerned yet. We'll see if he's able to practice tomorrow.
Shane Vereen catches both targets against the Eagles.
Vereen had two receptions for 18 yards while adding a five-yard carry. He's just a PPR bench option for now.
Shane Vereen gets nine touches in Week 2.
Vereen had six rushes for 28 yards and three receptions for 27 yards. He played the best of anyone in the Giants backfield, but his role isn't big enough to be an option outside of PPR leagues.
Shane Vereen leads the team in catches on Sunday night.
Vereen caught nine passes for 51 yards, but didn't receive a carry in the 19-3 loss. New York's offense looked as bad as it ever has since Ben McAdoo took over as head coach, but PPR owners who played Vereen should be happy about the late-game check downs by Eli Manning. The receiving back will be a decent FLEX option in PPR leagues for Week 2 against Detroit.
Shane Vereen plays in the Giants' fourth preseason game.
It was a bit of a surprise to be Vereen out there, so perhaps is roster spot with the Giants is not completely locked up. He had four carries for 15 yards and caught all three targets for 28 yards. Vereen is probably safe, but we'll find out for sure on Saturday. He'll be a reliable contributor on passing downs if he does make the team.
Shane Vereen catches one pass in Giants' third preseason game.
The pass, which went for no yards, was Vereen's only target in the game. He's likely done for the preseason, so he'll be healthy for Week 1 against the Cowboys. Vereen might provide some PPR value this season, but it's unlikely he becomes a reliable standard option.
Shane Vereen gets two carries in Week 2 of the preseason.
The passing down back for the Giants had two eight-yard carries and that was it. Vereen—who is currently going undrafted in fantasy leagues—probably won't have a lot of value in standard leagues, but he has some PPR appeal.
Shane Vereen carries once for five yards in preseason game against Pittsburgh.
The Giants' passing down back didn't catch any passes, but it's good to see him in game action after a triceps injury sent him to IR last season. Look for Vereen to get more playing time this preseason when Eli Manning starts to play.
Shane Vereen will remain with the Giants in 2017, according to Kimberly Jones.
Jones reports that the Giants will pay the $500,000 roster bonus that Vereen is due today, and he will remain with the team. It's a great day for Vereen, who will get $500K and get to stay with his team. Vereen will be a good PPR option in 2017 when healthy, as he's one of the best receiving backs in the NFL on a potentially good offense.
Shane Vereen sees four touches in win.
Vereen rushed twice for 11 yards and caught two passes for nine yards. The veteran should see more work over the final two games, and will again be a PPR FLEX option this week against the Eagles.
Shane Vereen (concussion) is active against the Lions.
He passed concussion protocol and will play today for the Giants. He'll be a PPR FLEX option.
Shane Vereen gets concussed in first game back.
Vereen caught one pass for ten yards against the Cowboys, but suffered some bad luck as he got a concussion in his first game back from his triceps injury. He will have to get through concussion protocol to play next week against the Lions and would be only a PPR FLEX option.
Shane Vereen (triceps) has been activated by the Giants.
Vereen missed the last nine games after undergoing triceps surgery. He'll return for a contending Giants team and should make an immediate impact for them. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry (on only 31 carries) before getting injured. He's also a weapon in the passing game. Vereen could definitely push for FLEX value for the fantasy playoffs, and is worth a pickup.
