WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke is being removed from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Heinicke will be back for a big game against Dallas on Sunday night, and it’s close to a must-win to avoid a guaranteed losing record at 6-9. We wouldn’t highly recommend Heinicke based on how good the Cowboys have been defensively.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Heinicke is now almost certainly out for Week 15, so with Kyle Allen already on the list, Washington could be turning to Kyle Shurmur as their starter in a huge divisional game versus the Eagles on Sunday. Hopefully everyone that's been placed on the list recently is feeling better, but this won't be the last of the late-season issues around the league if changes aren't made to some of the COVID rules.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke (knee) is questionable to return.

Heinicke was down for a bit after getting injured, but he walked off on his own and then looked to be trying to get loose. If he’s unable to return, Kyle Allen will finish the game for Washington.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke has agreed to a two-year extension with Washington, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The deal is worth $8.75 million, but it also includes incentives based on how many games he starts. Washington will surely be in the quarterback market this offseason, though they should feel really good about Heinicke as a potential option based on how well he played last month in a near upset victory over Tampa Bay. Ron Rivera's squad has the No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke (left shoulder) has returned for Washington.

Heinicke ran out of the locker room and has his left shoulder wrapped up, and he's ready to go without missing any time with his injury. This is great to see with Heinicke doing a really nice job leading the Washington offense in a playoff game against a stingy Bucs defense.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke (left shoulder) is officially questionable to return for Washington.

Heinicke is headed to the locker room for further evaluation, and he's in obvious discomfort with his left arm hanging. This is very unfortunate for a quarterback that's played exceptionally well in his first playoff start, and undrafted rookie Steven Montez will now be thrust into action against a tough Tampa Bay defense. Before leaving, Heinicke was 16/29 for 209 yards and one interception along with six carries for 46 yards and a tremendous diving touchdown run. Heinicke played better than the numbers indicated, and Washington probably feels good about bringing him back in 2021.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Washington has promoted Taylor Heinicke to the active roster.

Heinicke will back up Dwayne Haskins tomorrow with Alex Smith (calf) out. Washington hopes to have their veteran signal-caller back under center in Week 16 as they try to keep their NFC East lead.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Washington is signing Taylor Heinicke to the practice squad.

Heinicke was with Washington offensive coordinator Scott Turner in both Minnesota and Carolina, so there's familiarity there. More teams will likely add to their quarterback rooms after the ugly Broncos situation at the position last week.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

The Panthers cut Taylor Heinicke.

After the Panthers added quarterback Will Grier in the third round of this year's draft, it made it tougher for Heinicke to crack the 53-man roster. Heinicke should find a new team soon.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

The Panthers placed Taylor Heinicke (elbow) on injured reserve.

Heinicke deserves a lot of credit for coming back and finishing last Sunday's game against the Falcons after suffering the left elbow injury, but his season is now over. Undrafted rookie Kyle Allen looks set to make his first NFL start this Sunday against the Saints and will get a chance to showcase his talent heading into next season. In 2019, Heinicke will probably be in the mix for the backup spot behind Cam Newton in Carolina.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke throws three interceptions in first career NFL start.

Heinicke was 33/53 for 274 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions along with three carries for 33 yards in the Panthers' Week 16 loss. The touchdown was a first-quarter throw to rookie tight end Ian Thomas, and Heinicke showed nice accuracy on the run. Throwing the ball 53 times in his first NFL start wasn't ideal, but it was good experience for Heinicke as he looks to stay in Carolina as the long-term backup quarterback. And congrats to him on his first NFL touchdown. He'll probably start against in Week 17 but is not a recommended fantasy option against New Orleans.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke (left elbow) has returned for the Panthers.

Heinicke got his elbow wrapped and is back in there against the Falcons. Kyle Allen did a nice job while in the game, helping get the Panthers into the red zone.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke (left elbow) is officially questionable to return against the Falcons.

The good news is it was his non-throwing elbow, but it was an ugly-looking injury. Talented undrafted rookie Kyle Allen is stepping into the game for Carolina, but hopefully Heinicke is able to get back out there in his first career start.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke completes 33-yard pass in Week 14 loss.

It was his only pass of the game, but Heinicke continues to see action due to Cam Newton's shoulder injury. The No. 2 in Carolina might find his way into he starting lineup at some point to close out the year if Cam is eventually shut down, but he wouldn't be a recommended fantasy option.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke throws one pass in Week 13 loss.

Heinicke came in for the final play of the game after Cam Newton didn't have enough arm strength for a Hail Mary attempt, but it fell incomplete. Carolina's backup will ideally not see the field down the stretch.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

The Panthers claimed quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

Heinicke was waived by Houston over the weekend and has been awarded to Carolina. The all-time leading passer at Old Dominion went undrafted in 2015 and spent his first two years with the Vikings before getting waived ahead of last season and landing with the Texans, getting time in Week 16 before he suffered a concussion. Heinicke will likely have a chance to win the backup job behind Cam Newton.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke leaves to be evaluated for an injury.

After entering the game for T.J. Yates, Heinicke unfortunately suffered an injury of his known and appears to be headed for concussion protocol. Thankfully, Yates was cleared and is back in the game for Houston. Heinicke completed a ten-yard pass on his only attempt of the game, and hopefully he's feeling OK.

Taylor Heinicke | Washington QB

Taylor Heinicke leads game-winning drive in Vikings' third preseason game.

After sitting almost the entire game, Heinicke entered to start the Vikings' final drive, with the team down seven. He took the team 63-yards down the field, where Terrell Newby scored from one-yard out the make the score 31-30. The Vikings went for two and Heinicke scrambled and dove for the pylon for a walk-off game-winning two-point conversion in front of the home crowd in Minnesota. The team mobbed Heinicke, which was cool to see. Heinicke will be back out there on Thursday night in the Vikings' preseason finale.
