EA Sports College Football 25 just released the top 100 players in the game, so we are getting a fuller picture of what teams will look like ahead of next week’s highly anticipated release. There are a bunch of options, but these are the ten teams we believe will be most potent in College Football 25.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State has a whopping eight players in the top 100, headlined by safety Caleb Downs (95 overall), running backs Quinshon Judkins (95 overall) and TreVeyon Henderson (93 overall), and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (93 overall). And not included among those eight are star defender J.T. Tuimoloau and quarterback Will Howard, who has the fourth-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy and will be operating one of the best playbooks available with Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator.
2. Georgia Bulldogs
The highest-rated team in the game at 95 overall, Georgia certainly has a case for No. 1. They have six players in the top 100 compared to the Buckeyes’ eight, but they might be stronger throughout. The Dawgs have two guards in Tate Ratledge (95 overall) and Dylan Fairchild (91 overall) that will help open rushing lanes on offense and protect quarterback Carson Beck, who is tied for the game’s highest-rated quarterback at 93 overall.
3. Alabama Crimson Tide
In addition to Malachi Moore (92 overall) at free safety, Alabama’s other top four players are—at left guard, center, and right guard—Tyler Booker, Parker Brailsford, and Jaeden Roberts. So, the Tide will be exceptional up the middle with quarterback Jalen Milroe (90 overall, 91 speed, 93 acceleration) leading the show offensively. Milroe can be a total headache to go up against, and we’re anxious to see his deep-ball accuracy, which should be very high.
4. Oregon Ducks
Oregon will be very dangerous in College Football 25, with transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel looking to keep the program in the national championship picture as they move to the Big Ten. They have the third-highest overall rating (93), third-ranked defense (90), and second-ranked offense (94). The dynamic Tez Johnson (91 overall, 96 speed) will be one of the most exciting weapons to utilize.
5. Texas Longhorns
Texas lost serious talent to the NFL and have just two players ranked in the top 100 (quarterback Quinn Ewers at 92 overall and left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. at 94 overall). However, their overall team rating is fifth at 92 overall, and both sides of the ball land in the top eight for ratings there.
6. Michigan Wolverines
Another squad that obviously lost a ton to the NFL, including head coach Jim Harbaugh, the defending champion Wolverines surprisingly rank as the 11th-best team in terms of overall rating in CFB 25. But a glimpse of the gameplay shows that running back Donovan Edwards (one of the cover stars) will be super dangerous as a home-run threat, and cornerback Will Johnson is the highest-rated player in the game at 96 overall.
7. LSU Tigers
What stands out about LSU is the presence of two high-end bookend tackles in Will Campbell (96 overall) and Emery Jones Jr. (90 overall), which should allow gamers time in the pocket as well as getting on the edge to outflank opponents in the run game. The defense is relatively lacking at an 84 overall, but the Tigers offense is rated behind only Georgia, Oregon, Alabama, Texas, and Ohio State.
8. Colorado Buffaloes
From top to bottom, Colorado might not stack up with the other teams on this list. However, if you can take over games with two elite skill players in quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter, the Buffaloes can be a dangerous team in College Football 25. Plus, the environment at Folsom Field in Boulder is one of the most beautiful scenes in the nation, so it’ll be cool to see it in 4K quality virtually.
9. Clemson Tigers
Defense figures to be the calling card for Clemson in real life and appears to be the case in College Football 25, with a top-five unit at 90 overall. Linebacker Barrett Carter leads the way at 94 overall with 94 acceleration and 89 speed to get after the quarterback in a group that’ll be strong at all three levels. Offensively, you can do some fun things with coordinator Garrett Riley’s playbook.
10. Penn State Nittany Lions
Notre Dame was the top team to miss the top ten and could have been included (they are ranked seventh-best in the game). Giving Penn State the edge is the presence of their two-headed backfield in Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen. James Franklin’s rosters never lack talent, and in real life they’ve mostly just struggled to get over the hump versus Ohio State and Michigan. And it’s tough to top a White Out in Happy Valley to get a homefield advantage.
