Choosing The ‘Madden 19’ Ratings Leader For Key Attributes

Yesterday, in response to preliminary ratings for teams in Madden 19 (which will be changed, according to EA), I gave what I believe should be the team ratings in the game, with the Eagles leading the way at 91 overall. EA also recently revealed a lot of player ratings, but they will also be tweaked after some deserved criticism. Still, I have no faith in them getting it right, and if I were in charge, these would be the top players for some notable attributes in Madden 19.

Arm strength: Josh Allen (99)

Because he’s a rookie, I don’t think EA will give Josh Allen the best Arm Strength in the game, but it should probably be him without question. Allen set the NFL Combine record for miles-per-hour and can bomb it 80+ yards in the structure of the play (i.e. without a running start or unrealistic load up).

Speed: John Ross (98)

He hasn’t shown it on an NFL field yet, but John Ross is an absolute blazer, and physical stats shouldn’t be devalued after a disappointing season unless a player actually gets slower with age, which obviously won’t be an issue for the former first-rounder.

Acceleration: Tevin Coleman (99)

I’m almost positive that the Madden ratings released by EA through their Game Changers program were basically final, but the backlash caused them to back pedal faster than Deion Sanders. However, I don’t think they are smart enough to realize Tevin Coleman—who had 92 acceleration in the first release—looks like he’s shot out of a cannon when he sees a crease and should have at least 98 acceleration.

Trucking: Marshawn Lynch (96)

He doesn’t deserve a 99 like he did in his prime, but Marshawn Lynch will still take on and punish defenders with the best of them. Plus, there aren’t really any other established options to supplant him at Trucking, so it’ll be interesting to see if a rookie like Nick Chubb or Kerryon Johnson can eventually earn a “Beast Mode” reputation.

Deep Route Running: Antonio Brown (99)

There’s a case to be made for Antonio Brown being a 99 overall in Short, Medium, and Deep Route Running, but Deep will be an interesting attribute if Madden has improved route running in this year’s game; it would be awesome to see AB put a double move on a corner and safety to get behind the defense.

Jumping: Byron Jones (98)

Dez Bryant had the best Jumping rating in Madden 18, but that simply shouldn’t have been the case, as Dez clearly lost a step and some of his athleticism. Instead, Byron Jones should have 97 or 98 Jumping as the best leaper in the game, and he will be a dangerous defender on one side of the field now that he’s converted to cornerback.

Hit Power: Kam Chancellor (97)

Gamers should probably enjoy Chancellor on the back end for as long as they can in Madden, and even with Richard Sherman gone, I doubt he lets the Legion of Boom name end before he’s finished playing. I can almost feel the screen shake thinking about Kam hitting a receiver over the middle.

Kick Return: Tyreek Hill (98)

Somehow, Tyreek Hill was even with Jarvis Landry in the Kick Return rating last year, and tied for fourth overall in the category. Hill is as dangerous as they come on a punt or kickoff and should probably be alone at 98 overall (with 99 reserved for Devin Hester).
