Last week, Nintendo announced it was coming out with a mini Super Nintendo Classic Edition console. The mini version of the 90’s console, packed with 21 games and two controllers, immediately drew a lot of interest from people looking for some nostalgia. In the UK, it appears to have sold out everywhere already. So how do you get your hands on one of these? From what we understand, the console was not yet available in the U.S., likely because the FCC hasn’t approved it yet.
The best course of action is to sign up for pre-order alerts from Amazon or Best Buy. Other sellers like Walmart and GameStop do not currently have the console listed on their sites. However, Amazon and Best Buy do, and they allow for you to sign up to receive and email when the console becomes available for pre-order.
Because the console sold out in minutes in the United Kingdom, it likely won’t be any different in the United States. If you’re serious about getting one of these bad boys, you should sign up for an Amazon or Best Buy account and get your information (address, payment method, etc.) on there and ready.
Also for Amazon, I suggest the mobile app for your phone (just make sure you sign in on your account). Then when you get the email, even if it’s on your phone, you can click the link to open the app and quickly add to cart and order.
It’s probably not going to be easy though. Nintendo said they made the SNES classic edition to be more available and not sell out as quickly as the first NES classic; but if the UK is any indication, things didn’t get much better.
If you’re really serious about having one of these blast-from-the-blasts, you can buy it from someone that was already lucky enough to pre-order in the UK—or wait and buy from someone that gets it in time in the United States. Just be ready to give up at least twice the $80 Nintendo is selling it for.
Or if you’re out of luck this time, you could wait for the inevitable Nintendo 64 mini console to be released and hope Nintendo makes it so people have better luck with that.
not going to be easy if you dont sign up for alerts
