Microsoft’s Xbox One X 4K Video Game Console Is Now Available

[Editor’s Note: We will not publish a review of the Xbox One X until it is tested on a very high-end 4K television, which might not be for some time.]

Nearly four years after the release of the original Xbox One, Microsoft’s next console is here. The Xbox One X is still in the Xbox One family, but it’s a major upgrade—especially if you can take advantage of its true 4K gaming.

The Xbox One X will no doubt be one of the hottest items this holiday season, and it might give Microsoft a needed bump over Sony’s PlayStation 4, which has outsold the Xbox One by a good margin according to media reports (Microsoft doesn’t release its sales numbers for the Xbox).

For those that want to see mind-blowing graphics, the Xbox One X should at least be a consideration. There’s the true 4K, 2160p gaming, but it also has High Dynamic Range, which makes games really pop. But it’s still unclear the differences between the Xbox One X and the PlayStation 4 Pro on cross-platform games like Madden and Star Wars Battlefront. You can read the full breakdown, on paper, between the Xbox One X and the PlayStation 4 Pro here.

Something else to keep in mind about the Xbox One X is the backwards compatibility dating back to the original Xbox (there are over a dozen right now, with more to come). And another big thing—despite the awesome upgrade in power to make it what Microsoft is calling “the world’s most powerful console”—is that all Xbox One accessories work on the new console.

I won’t be doing a review right now (I don’t have a 4K television), but it’s clear the Xbox One X would be a great addition to any entertainment room. It plays games with the best picture quality available on consoles, it works as a 4K UHD Blu Ray player, it has HDR, and it is considered future proof (unless we get 8K televisions within the next 15, which is unlikely).

To those with or are getting the Xbox One X, enjoy!
