‘PGA Tour 2K21’ Announced – These Are Other Sports That Need A Video Game

Following the reveal trailer for PGA Tour 2K21 yesterday, I have been thinking about some other sports video games that it would be great to see on modern consoles. I came up with five, but feel free to leave your ideas in the comments!

Paintball

If you have Xbox One, then Greg Hastings Paintball 2 is available as a backwards compatible game to play on consoles, but the paintball games that are being made in 2020 for Steam appear to be lacking compared to the old school ones. I would love to see a game for the Xbox Series X and PS5 that takes advantage of all the horsepower in terms of accurate physics/trajectory, graphics (like ball splatter), and customization.

Olympics

This might be a bit ambitious because of all the events, but it would be pretty cool to go for gold and try to win the Olympics for your home country. My first thought was that it would get a bit stale, but online play—potentially allowing users to create themselves or a character to compete with against others—for individual events or the entire Olympic games could keep it fresh.

NCAA Basketball

I admittedly don’t know the logistics of it, but I would imagine that an NCAA Basketball video game could help make up for the loss of revenue from March Madness being cancelled. It would just need to be a bit more realistic than the NCAA Basketball 10 game with Blake Griffin on the cover (you were able to nail shots from 40 feet with ease).

Boxing

The Fight Night series unfortunately didn’t happen on Xbox One X or PS4, but boxing promotor Eddie Hearn recently hinted at the game returning at some point—which fans would go crazy for. The sport has seem to be making a comeback in terms of star power (or at least notable names), and the ability to include legends would be awesome for esports and online competition.

NCAA Football

NCAA Football 14 is still being played today despite needing an Xbox 360 or PS3, and if there are any concerns about being able to make money and pay the athletes for their likeness, it should be alleviated by the fact that used versions of the game made seven years ago sell for around $150 on eBay. A deep dynasty mode with improved graphics/gameplay would be awesome, but we probably shouldn’t get our hopes up based on how 2020 has gone.
