Christmas is the time for giving, but there are some pretty sweet deals from Xbox if you’re looking to buy something for yourself. It’s an end-of-year countdown to 2018 sale by Microsoft, and a lot of Xbox games and items are getting big discounts. If you want to buy something as a gift, there are discounts of up to 75%, but if you have an Xbox Live Gold account you can get discounts of up to 85%. And Xbox Live Gold is only $1.00 right now, so you can buy it and it would lead to a discount on all these games. So if you’ve been waiting for the discounts to buy yourself a game, or you know your friends or family want a particular game, now is probably the time to make the purchase.
Unfortunately, the new Xbox One X with 4K capability isn’t getting a discount, which isn’t surprising considering it was just released last month. However, the Xbox One S is on sale for $199.99 (500GB) and $299.99 (1TB), and both come with a game.
The entire list of games on sale is available here, and there are a lot of them, but these are the ones that stand out:
Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition
You might have heard EA had some major issues while basically trying to rip off its customers by making them pay—or spend an inordinate amount of time on the game—to play as their favorite characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. It still does take some time to get those characters, but it’s not as bad as it could have been, and the game is on sale for $55.99 (from its usual $79.99 price for the deluxe edition), and $47.99 if you have Xbox Live Gold.
For Honor
Please note this game might not be suitable for younger audiences because of the violence (it’s a sword fighting game with executions that include decapitations). However, the deluxe edition is on sale for a whopping $28.00 ($23.10 with Xbox Live Gold), which are savings of well over 50%. With some seasonal events, including a winter/holiday event going on right now, along with new heroes released through updates, For Honor should remain a fresh game.
FIFA 18 and NHL 18
Video games normally cost around $60 for the standard edition of games, but this EA Sports bundle includes the latest release of FIFA and NHL for $50 combined. These are probably the two best sports games EA has to offer, so it’s a very solid deal. For players of FIFA Ultimate Team, the legend edition of the game is on sale for $59.99 (or $50.00 with Xbox Live Gold), so if you love that mode it might be worth it.
Halo 5
Maybe you’ve been waiting to buy Halo 5, and now it’s nearly half off (half off with Xbox Live Gold) to the prices of $29.99 and $20.00. With the Xbox One X enhancements in particular if you have that console, it’ll look thrilling on a 4K television.
Destiny 2
A Halo successor of sorts, the Destiny series hasn’t gotten as many positive reviews with its sequel, which might have led some to decide against buying Destiny 2. It now does get some discounts (priced at $44.99 and $38.99) if you’ve been waiting but still want to buy the game.
Batman: Arkham Knight Premium Edition
This is only $20.00 without Xbox Live Gold and $16.00 with it, so we’re talking a premium discount here for a highly-acclaimed game from Warner Bros. featuring one of its most iconic characters. Unfortunately, there are no 4K enhancements for the Xbox One X, but it’s still a fine game.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole Gold Edition
If you were into the first South Park game, you’ll probably be into this one. The gold edition is on sale for $53.99 (down from its $89.99 price), and it’s $45.00 with Xbox Live Gold.
L.A. Noire
For these final three games, the savings aren’t quite as nice. But L.A. Noire is a re-release that’s enhanced in 4K for the Xbox One X. It’s from Rockstar Games, the people that bring you the Grand Theft Auto series.
Call of Duty: WWII
The latest installment of the Call of Duty series can be had at a slight discount, so if you were waiting you can save $10 or $15 by purchasing it now.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
$33.19 without Xbox Live Gold and $29.99 with it, COD 4 is a classic on a discount.
Woah.. might have to pickup Star Wars
