Join now >Cam Newton (shoulder) has officially been ruled out for Week 17.
This was basically just a formality at this point, as Newton was set to miss the final two games after Carolina’s Week 15 loss to New Orleans. Newton’s season ends with 3,395 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 101 carries, 488 rushing yards, and four rushing touchdowns. The former MVP also had a 67.9% completion percentage, by far besting his previous career-high of 61.7% in 2013. The first year in Norv Turner’s offense showed obvious positive signs, but Newton clearly wasn’t at 100% and made some poor decisions as the season progressed, perhaps because he wasn’t a full strength. Newton was still a strong QB1 in fantasy leagues again, and he should continue as such in 2019. However, it’ll be interesting to see what happens with his shoulder, as surgery could be a possibility.

Elijhaa Penny gets one touch in Week 17.
Penny had one reception for six yards against the Cowboys. Penny’s regular season ends with seven carries for 25 yards and eight receptions for 50 yards. He’ll look to carve out a role with the Giants in 2019.

Odell Beckham Jr. (quad) officially did not practice today.
Again, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur says Beckham is making progress and has a chance to play this week, but it’s hard to feel good about his status until he gets back on the practice field. We’ll see if OBJ can get up to at least a limited session tomorrow.

Adam Humphries catches five passes against the Falcons.
Humphries gained 66 yards on his five Week 17 receptions. Humphries’ season ends with 76 receptions for 816 yards and five touchdowns, setting career-highs across the board. Humphries is set to become a free agent this offseason, and it’ll be interesting to see what type of interest he draws if he’s not re-signed before hitting the open market. The Bucs probably want to bring him back to man the third receiver spot behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, so expect him to be back with Tampa Bay in 2019.
12/31/18 - 08:34 AM ET
The Bengals have placed Tyler Boyd on injured reserve.
Boyd’s breakout 2018 season is officially over after 14 games because of the knee injury suffered in Week 15. Boyd had 76 receptions for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns, living up to the preseason hype he was garnering during the summer in Cincinnati. Next season, Boyd will be entering a contract year unless an extension is struck this offseason, so he could have some extra motivation as he looks to build upon his emergence into an excellent No. 2 receiver opposite A.J. Green. Boyd should be one of the better mid-round selections with a solid floor in 2019 fantasy drafts, though a similar third-year jump from former first-round pick John Ross next season could potentially affect Boyd’s fantasy value.
12/28/18 - 12:35 PM ET
David Williams gets two carries in Week 17.
Williams gained two yards on his two attempts against Houston. The seventh-round rookie will look to carve out a role with the Jags moving forward, but he’s not on the fantasy radar yet.
12/31/18 - 08:52 AM ET
Sammy Watkins (foot) will not practice today.
Watkins was apparently in a walking boot recently, but that is now off, which indicates progress. He probably isn’t going to play in the regular season finale this Sunday versus the Raiders, so ideally he’ll be ready to go for the postseason. A limited practice by Friday would be a positive sign.
