Join now >Cordarrelle Patterson is in the concussion protocol.
Patterson went down on a trick play where he threw the ball out of bounds, so it will obviously be unfortunate if he’s unable to return after again impressing on a couple of carries. Mike Davis should handle the majority of touches if Patterson is done for the day.

The Broncos placed Albert Okwuegbunam (hamstring) on injured reserve.
Okwuegbunam will now miss at least the next three games, so Denver’s tight end depth takes a hit behind Noah Fant.

Derek Carrier (torn pec) is out for the season.
Carrier’s season ends with two receptions for 13 yards, but he was a key contributor for the Raiders in multiple-tight-end sets. The Raiders are fortunate to be deep at tight end, but it’s still unfortunate that Carrier will be out for the rest of the year. We wish him luck on his recovery.

The 49ers are placing George Kittle (calf) on injured reserve.
Kittle will now miss the next three games for the Niners, but he’s expected to be back after that. The star tight end would probably play through this calf injury, but San Francisco is playing it safe by shutting him down for now so that he can hopefully get back to 100% for the entire second half of the season. The Niners have a bye next week, so Kittle will be set to return for a Week 9 matchup with the Cardinals.

Joe Mixon (ankle) is trending towards playing “in some capacity” this week, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Cincinnati having Mixon practice on Saturday to test things out was a signal that he had a definite shot of suiting up, and it sounds like that will be the case. However, Mixon’s role is expected to be limited if he plays, so he should be downgraded from usual RB1 status to low-end RB2/FLEX territory. This news makes it difficult to trust Samaje Perine and/or Chris Evans in lineups.

Russell Wilson (finger) to miss several weeks.
This was reportedly the fear for the Seahawks, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Wilson did undergo surgery today, and that it was “more complicated than expected, with the need for screws complicating matters.” Rapoport adds that the timeline given was six weeks. Wilson will undoubtedly be pushing to get back on the field as soon as possible, so don’t be surprised if he’s back sooner than expected. He’ll almost certainly be placed on injured reserve, forcing him to miss at least three games, in the coming days. Geno Smith, who looked excellent in relief of Wilson last night, will take over at quarterback for Seattle.

Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) will play in Week 5.
Mitchell will suit up after a two-game absence, and he’s expected to start for the Niners. That said, Trey Sermon could see quite a bit of action in what will be a run-heavy attack, and he’s apparently been studying Alfred Morris in preparation for whatever game plan Kyle Shanahan has in store with Trey Lance at quarterback. Consider Mitchell a low-end RB2/FLEX and Sermon as a strong FLEX.
