The veteran is headed to IR, and he likely won’t be back until November, so this is obviously a significant blow to fantasy owners that drafted him early over the summer. Sixth-round pick Elijah Mitchell rushed for 100+ yards and a score in his debut, and he is a top waiver pickup ahead of Week 2. Also, this news opens the door for fellow rookie Trey Sermon to make an impact after being a surprising inactive yesterday, and JaMycal Hasty will have a role, too. Hopefully there is some sort of defined order for San Francisco, but Kyle Shanahan could certainly end up making the backfield a week-by-week headache.

Rashaad Penny (calf) is expected to be shut down for a few weeks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Penny re-aggravated his calf injury, and is now likely to be placed on injured reserve. This is another tough injury break for the former first-round pick, though Seattle treated Chris Carson like a workhorse in the opener, and they are the rare team with five running backs on the roster. Look for Alex Collins to now be active on game days, and DeeJay Dallas should see an expanded role. Hopefully Penny can return at some point in October.

Washington is placing Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip) on injured reserve, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The MRI confirmed hip subluxation, which will knock the veteran out for at least the next three games—and possibly beyond. It’s obviously a difficult break for Fitzpatrick, and there is a real chance Taylor Heinicke might not give up the starting job if he plays well in his place. This news limits the fantasy upside for Terry McLaurin and others for now, but it by no means should be a significant downgrade for Washington’s offense in general.

Washington has signed Kyle Shurmur to the practice squad.
Shurmur will join the quarterback room with Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen with Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip) set to miss an extended period of time. Washington has a quick turnaround for a game against the Giants on Thursday night.

Jerry Jeudy is dealing with a high-ankle sprain.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero says the X-rays on Jeudy’s ankle were negative and that he’s dealing with a high-ankle sprain. This is great to hear after an emotional Jeudy left today’s Week 1 game on a cart. Jeudy will still be dealing with a multi-week injury, but at least this should not be close to a season-ender.

Jerry Jeudy carted off with apparent lower leg injury.
Jeudy appears to have suffered a serious ankle or leg injury, but hopefully it wasn’t as bad as it appeared. K.J. Hamler and Tim Patrick will step up behind Courtland Sutton for the rest of the game, and an update on Jeudy should be provided soon.

Nelson Agholor (ankle) is officially active for Week 1.
Agholor probably would’ve been listed as probable if the NFL still offered that as an injury designation. The Patriots are relying on Agholor’s speed to make a major difference on offense, but he’s probably a risky fantasy play against a stingy Dolphins secondary to open the year.
