Join now >The Jaguars are claiming Tyron Johnson.
The Jaguars have the first priority in today’s waiver claims, and they are unsurprisingly using it on a wide receiver after making a bunch of cuts at the position yesterday. Johnson is an exciting deep threat that will fit right in as another option on the outside for Trevor Lawrence.

Irv Smith Jr. (knee) is expected to miss four-to-five months.
The recovery timeline for Smith wasn’t going to be known until after surgery, and unfortunately it’ll be a meniscus tear that keeps him out for a few months instead of potentially a few weeks. Perhaps Smith will be able to return very late in the season or into the playoffs, but he’s now off the redraft radar. It’s a very tough break for an emerging player, and we wish him luck on his recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the field.

The Bears placed Tarik Cohen (knee) on the PUP list.
Cohen will now miss the first six weeks of the season as he continues to recover from last season’s knee injury. Damien Williams will help complement David Montgomery in the Chicago backfield to open the regular season.

The Rams waived/injured Xavier Jones.
The Rams will now hope Jones clears waivers and reverts back to the team’s injured reserve as a “stash”. Either way, Jones is off the redraft radar at the moment.

The Texans cut Keke Coutee.
Keke had a very strong stretch for Houston to begin his career, but he’s since fallen out of favor with the previous regime and then had trouble finding a consistent role on offense. He’s someone to keep an eye on when he hits waivers.

The 49ers released Jordan Matthews.
Matthews is currently transitioning to tight end. There was some thought that he was making a rapid enough transition make the active roster, but the Niners are moving on for now. The San Francisco practice squad could be a likely destination for Matthews.

The 49ers released Wayne Gallman.
Gallman was an intriguing signing by the Niners early in the offseason, but the team then drafted Trey Sermon in the third round and had JaMycal Hasty win a roster spot with a strong summer. Gallman should land on a new team’s active roster soon.
