With Jerick McKinnon (ACL) out for the year, Morris started the Week 1 game for San Francisco. The veteran running back gained 38 yards on his 12 carries, running pretty well against a tough Vikings defense, but he had a key lost fumble deep in the red zone. Teammate Matt Breida also received 12 touches, gaining 51 total yards with them. Despite the fumble to open the year, expect a split backfield in Week 2 against the Lions.

Matt Breida leads the Niners in Week 1 rushing.
Breida and Morris had an exact 50/50 split to open the year, with each of the backs receiving 12 touches against the Vikings. Breida carried 11 times for 46 rushing yards while adding one reception for five receiving yards. Meanwhile, Morris carried 12 times for 38 yards, but he had a key lost fumble at the goal line. Until something actually changes, expect a near 50/50 split in the backfield moving forward.

Jimmy Garoppolo throws three interceptions in first-career loss as a starter.
Garoppolo had about as tough of a matchup as possible to open the season, as the Niners faced the Vikings in Minnesota. Jimmy G went 15/33 for 261 yards, one touchdown, and one interception along with two carries for six rushing yards in the Week 1 loss. The Vikings did a good job of keeping constant pressure on Garoppolo, who was sacked three times in the game. One interception was a pick-six by rookie corner Mike Hughes on a pass to the flat where the receiver slipped, but it looked like it would have been intercepted regardless because it was thrown inside. And the final interception was a game-sealer by All-Pro safety Harrison Smith on a pass over the middle. The touchdown was an amazing throw, as Garoppolo was fading backwards and lofted a perfect pass to the back of the end zone into rookie Dante Pettis’ hands. Things should get easier next week at home against the Lions.

Josh Hill catches one pass in loss to Bucs.
Hill gained 15 yards on his one reception in the Week 1 loss. Benjamin Watson is the top tight end for the Saints, making it difficult to trust Hill in fantasy lineups.

Austin Carr catches two passes in Week 1.
Carr worked as New Orleans’ third wide receiver against Tampa Bay, and he caught two passes for 20 yards in their 48-40 loss. There’s some upside, particularly in PPR leagues, as one of Drew Brees’ top three receivers, but Carr isn’t a highly-recommended fantasy option in standard-sized leagues.

Benjamin Watson catches four passes in Week 1.
The veteran tight end gained 44 yards on his four receptions against the Bucs. Watson and the Saints face the Browns in Week 2. He’s in the backend TE1 discussion as Drew Brees’ primary tight end.

Michael Thomas grabs 16 balls in Week 1.
Thomas had the benefit of the Saints needing to throw the ball a ton after falling behind the Bucs, and he cashed-in with 16 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown, but he did lose a fumble in the loss. The 16 receptions were a Saints record, and the 180 yards were a career-high for the third-year receiver. Thomas will remain a very good option in Week 2 against the Browns.
