Join now >Tevin Coleman scores in Falcons’ Week 1 loss.
Coleman out-touched teammate Devonta Freeman against the Eagles, getting ten touches compared to Freeman’s nine—and Freeman was unable to play at the end of the game because of a knee injury. Coleman had nine carries for 19 rushing yards and a touchdown along with one reception for 26 receiving yards. The touchdown was a carry in the red zone that Coleman cut up the field with great acceleration from nine yards out. Looking ahead to next week against the Panthers, Coleman will be at least a solid FLEX option, but he’ll be a potential RB1 if Freeman misses time.

Vance McDonald (foot) did not practice today.
McDonald was a limited participant in yesterday’s practice, so he’s trending in the wrong direction ahead of Sunday. McDonald would do well to be listed as questionable when the official injury report is released tomorrow, but it’s possible the Steelers decide to just rule him out before the weekend. McDonald says he’s day-to-day.

Nick Foles, Eagles win season opener over the Falcons, 18-12.
The playoff rematch was a defensive battle that was eerily similar to January’s game, and Foles went 19/34 for 117 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. He also caught a 15-yard pass on a variation of the “Philly Special” to pickup a key first down in the second half. Earlier in the evening, it was reported that Carson Wentz could potentially be out until October, so this might be Foles’ team for at least a couple more weeks. The season opener was expected to be a bit of a slugfest, but Week 2 against the Bucs will be a tremendous matchup and could be the time to use the reigning Super Bowl MVP as a QB1 if he draws another start.

The Patriots signed tight end Stephen Anderson.
Anderson spent his first two NFL seasons with the Texans, which are the team the Patriots are playing in Week 1. Anderson is not on the fantasy radar behind Rob Gronkowski, Dwayne Allen, and Jacob Hollister.

Matt Ryan and the Falcons lose close opening game against the Eagles.
Ryan didn’t have a great game versus the Eagles, who have played well against him and the offense the past couple of seasons. Matty Ice was 21/43 for 251 yards and an interception while also adding two carries for eight yards on the ground. The interception was on a deep out-breaking route to Julio Jones, who appeared to maybe take blame on the sidelines for not going for the ball or running a more crisp route. To start the game, the Falcons had four goal-to-go chances to put the ball in the end zone and could not, and then they had chance at the end to score and could not. Philadelphia simply hasn’t been a good matchup for the Falcons the past couple of years, and Ryan should have a bounce-back game in Week 2 against the Panthers.

The Panthers signed Connor Cook to the practice squad.
The third-year quarterback from Michigan State was released by Oakland ahead of 53-man-roster cuts. He’ll look to develop on the practice squad, and he’s in a good spot with Norv Turner as a coach.

Devonta Freeman leaves opening game against the Eagles with a knee injury.
At the end of the game, Freeman was frustrated on the sideline while dealing with a knee issue that didn’t allow him back in on the final drive. Freeman was dealing with a knee injury toward the end of last season, so hopefully this isn’t a related issue that lingers throughout the season. For the game, Freeman was out-touched by Tevin Coleman, 10-9, carrying six times for 36 rushing yards while adding three receptions for 14 receiving yards. We’ll have to monitor Freeman’s status leading up to next week’s game versus Carolina.
