Join now >The Patriots placed Braxton Berrios on injured reserve.
New England is probably doing this so they don’t lose the sixth-round rookie receiver to waivers, though Berrios is dealing with an undisclosed injury, so the severity is unclear. This might be a redshirt season of sorts for the former Miami Hurricane.

Andrew Luck (foot) is not practicing.
Colts head coach Frank Reich said yesterday that the injury isn’t anything serious, so the team continues to be cautious with their franchise quarterback. It’s just something to keep in mind, but there isn’t much question Luck will be out there for Week 1.

The Jets cut Thomas Rawls.
Rawls seemed buried on the depth chart in a deep running back group, so this was expected. Rawls is still just 25 years old and has a lot of talent as a runner, so he’s likely to receive immediate interest from other teams and might be claimed on waivers.

Doug Pederson says he expects to make a decision on the starting quarterback on Friday.
Pederson added that he might not reveal who the starter is until 90 minutes before kickoff on Thursday night, which is when actives and inactives must be decided by—likely the smart move to keep Atlanta in the dark heading into the game. This apparent deadline probably isn’t a good sign for Carson Wentz, who would just have a few days to get fully cleared before Pederson makes his decision. Pederson is a decisive coach that wants clarity for practices before the opener, so this isn’t surprising. Hopefully there is more clarity on the situation over the weekend, but we’d lean toward Nick Foles being under-center next Thursday. Perhaps the distribution of practice reps at quarterback will be known ahead of the opener, as the starter should obviously get as many reps as possible to prepare for the Falcons.

The Lions are waiving quarterback Jake Rudock.
The 2016 sixth-round pick from Michigan lost the backup quarterback competition to veteran Matt Cassell. Rudock is likely to be on Detroit’s practice squad if no other team claims him.

Jay Gruden says Chris Thompson “looks fantastic.”
There has been some thought that Thompson, who is coming off a broken leg from last season, won’t be 100% to start this season, but Gruden sounds optimistic he’ll be ready to contribute. Gruden said Thompson “looks great. He’s ready to go.” Thompson didn’t play this preseason, so that paired with the fact the he’s coming off a serious leg injury could mean his early-season role isn’t quite as big as it will be later in the season. Thompson is still a solid selection in all formats, particularly PPR leagues.

The Dolphins waived Isaiah Ford, according to multiple reports.
Ford was a seventh-round pick in last year’s draft and spent last season on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in the summer. Other teams will be interested in the former Virginia Tech receiver.
