Cruz announced his retirement via UNINTERRUPTED in a video that can be viewed in the link below. After going undrafted out of UMass in 2010, Cruz burst onto the scene with a huge rookie preseason while donning a single-digit number (3) as a receiver. A hamstring injury ended his rookie season early, but he then exploded for 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns the next season, following it up with a 1,092-yard, ten touchdown season in 2012. Cruz’s career was unfortunately derailed a bit by a serious patellar injury during Sunday Night Football against the Eagles in 2014, but he returned and played well in his final season with the Giants in 2016. For his career, Cruz had 303 receptions for 4,549 yards and 25 touchdowns across six NFL seasons, and he was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI winning team. Cruz also has a tie for the NFL record for longest touchdown reception (99 yards). We wish him luck post-retirement.

Josh Gordon is dealing with a tweaked hamstring.
The Browns say Gordon tweaked his hamstring during conditioning when he returned to the team last week. This comes on the same day Gordon has been officially cleared for all football activities, so it sounds like his return to the practice field will have to wait until the former All-Pro is healed from the hamstring issue. The Browns are likely to wait until Gordon is 100% before letting him come back, as they don’t want this to be an issue that lingers throughout the season. With this news, Gordon’s Week 1 status becomes less certain, especially if he isn’t able to get on the practice field soon.

The Titans have signed Rishard Matthews to a one-year extension, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
Yates says it’s a 2019 team option worth $7.75 million. This timing feels a bit odd with Matthews still on the PUP because of an undisclosed injury (he hasn’t participated in any practices this summer), but it’s a good move for the Titans, who now have Matthews under team control for the next two seasons. Presumably, Tennessee expects Matthews to step into a sizable role when he returns to the field, but it’s going to have to be soon if he’s going to have a big role in Week 1. Maybe this extension means he’s close to returning.

Jakeem Grant suffered a concussion.
Grant is out for the rest of tonight’s preseason game against the Ravens. He took a hit to the head in the first half, and he’s now in concussion protocol. Grant has a couple of weeks to get cleared for the season opener on September 9.

Josh Ferguson (groin) is out for the rest of tonight’s preseason game against the Ravens.
Ferguson was getting some work with the first-team offense with Marlon Mack (hamstring) out, so this is a tough break for him. It might not be a great sign that Ferguson has already been ruled out. More information should become available tonight on in the next couple of days.

Josh Gordon has been cleared to resume all football activities.
Yesterday, the Browns said Gordon would be cleared for walk-throughs, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the NFL says Gordon is “cleared to return to all activities, including games.” Gordon will now have a couple of weeks to practice and get ready for the season opener on September 9 against the Steelers; and there’s a chance he gets some time in the team’s fourth preseason game, though we don’t expect that to happen. Gordon is one of the league’s most talented players, so he should be able to make an immediate impact despite missing nearly the entire summer while he was away from the team.

T.Y. Hilton is dealing with a sprained shoulder.
Hilton isn’t playing in the Colts’ second preseason game, and ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters said he injured the shoulder over the weekend, but head coach Frank Reich thinks it’s “not too serious.” Right now, there shouldn’t be much reason for concern, especially considering the chemistry Hilton has with Andrew Luck. However, his status is something to keep an eye on if he misses the team’s third preseason game. We think T.Y. is worth a pick in the third round of fantasy drafts.
