WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Victor Cruz | Retired WR

Victor Cruz has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Cruz announced his retirement via UNINTERRUPTED in a video that can be viewed in the link below. After going undrafted out of UMass in 2010, Cruz burst onto the scene with a huge rookie preseason while donning a single-digit number (3) as a receiver. A hamstring injury ended his rookie season early, but he then exploded for 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns the next season, following it up with a 1,092-yard, ten touchdown season in 2012. Cruz's career was unfortunately derailed a bit by a serious patellar injury during Sunday Night Football against the Eagles in 2014, but he returned and played well in his final season with the Giants in 2016. For his career, Cruz had 303 receptions for 4,549 yards and 25 touchdowns across six NFL seasons, and he was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI winning team. Cruz also has a tie for the NFL record for longest touchdown reception (99 yards). We wish him luck post-retirement.

The Bears released Victor Cruz, according to Art Stapleton.

Despite Cruz's big name, this is not a surprising one, as Kendall Wright took about every first-team snap in the slot for the Bears during the preseason while Cruz worked late into games. While Cruz didn't make the roster in Chicago, he might always be remembered for catching Mitchell Trubisky's first preseason touchdown pass if Trubisky goes on to be a legend for the Bears. Unfortunately, Cruz might have trouble finding another team, but we'll have to see where he goes from here.

Victor Cruz catches one pass for eight yards in Bears' third preseason game.

Again, Kendall Wright worked as the clear starter in the slot, and it's going to be that way when the season opens. Cruz might not be on the final roster for the Bears.

Victor Cruz scores, plays late into Bears preseason game.

Kendall Wright got the start in the slot, and Cruz played into the fourth quarter of the game, playing with rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Cruz did catch a Trubisky's first-career preseason NFL preseason touchdown, and had three catches for 11 yards. Cruz might be on the roster bubble if Kendall Wright is the clear lead guy in the slot.

Victor Cruz has agreed to one-year deal with the Bears.

Cruz said on his Instagram that "The Giants will forever be family. But for now, Bear down!!!" It didn't look like the previously dynamic slot receiver had much left in the tank last season because of his devastating Achilles injury, but Chicago is giving him a chance to make the team. The Bears have one of the weakest wideout groups in the league, so Cruz has a shot, but it would be a surprise if he ever became a fantasy factor again.

Victor Cruz is vising the Bears on Monday, according to Kimberly Jones.

Suddenly, there is a lot of reported interest in Cruz. Earlier today, it was made known that Cruz was visiting the Jaguars in a couple weeks. Cruz will find a team to sign with a team at some point.

Victor Cruz's visit with the Jaguars will be on May 23, according to Kimberly Jones.

Cruz could draw interest from other teams before then. With Allen Robinson Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns, Dede Westbrook, Bryan Walters, and others in the mix, Cruz would likely get more playig time elsewhere.

Free agent receiver Victor Cruz is visiting the Jaguars, according to Tom Pelissero.

Of course, Cruz played for Tom Coughlin—who is now running the Jaguars football operations—with the Giants. The Jaguars have a deep receiving group, but they are young, so maybe they want to bring a veteran in the mix.

According to Black & Blue Review, receiver Victor Cruz is visiting the Panthers.

With Ted Ginn Jr. an upcoming free agent, the Panthers are going to keep their options open at receiver. Reports say no deal is imminent, but Cruz—who believes he still can play at a high level—will find a team at some point.

The Giants are releasing Victor Cruz, according to beat reporter Art Stapleton.

The move saves the Giants $7.5 million against the cap. Cruz will end his six-year Giants career with 303 catches, 4,549 yards, and 25 touchdowns. After exploding on the scene in 2011 with an 82/1,536/9 line, Cruz had a couple more solid seasons but hasn't been able to bounce back from his torn patellar injury suffered in 2014. After missing all of 2015, Cruz had just 586 yards and one touchdown this season. It's unlikely he ever regains his old form, but Cruz will probably get a deal somewhere this offseason. He turns 31 in November.

Victor Cruz catches three passes for 40 yards in playoff loss.

With a high cap hit next season compared to his production, Cruz may be asked to re-negotiate his contract again. He should be back with the Giants, however.

Victor Cruz | Retired WR

Victor Cruz caught 8-of-13 passes for 84 yards against the Eagles.

It was one of Cruz's better games of the year, thanks partly to Eli's 63 pass attempts. Cruz is not a fantasy option.
