Adrian Peterson | Free Agent RB

The Cardinals are expected to release Adrian Peterson.

Mike Jurecki of Arizona Sports is reporting the news, and it’s not at all surprising. Peterson helped steady the Cardinals’ backfield that was without David Johnson this season, but AD didn’t play in the month of December because of a neck issue. The future Hall of Famer has said he wants to play at least a couple more seasons, so expect him to be somewhere in 2018. Peterson will be 33 years old this March, and he will likely be released before the new league year begins on March 14.

Joe Webb | Free Agent QB

The Texans signed quarterback Joe Webb.

Webb is an athletic veteran quarterback that’s spent time with the Panthers and Bills. Even as a quarterback, Webb can contribute on special teams as both a returner and cover guy, so his versatility should help him make Houston’s roster. There’s a chance Webb also pushes Brandon Weeden for the backup quarterback job behind Deshaun Watson.

Tevin Coleman | Free Agent RB

The Falcons say they are not trading running back Tevin Coleman.

Because Coleman is entering the final year of his contract and the team made Devonta Freeman the highest-paid running back in the league with an extension last year, many have speculated that he could be on the move. However, Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff made it clear Coleman will not be moved, telling 92.9 The Game radio in Atlanta: “We are not considering trading Tevin Coleman, period.” Dimitroff said how important Coleman is to their organization and that their focus is on winning in 2018. Coleman is one of the most dynamic and underrated players in the league, so it’s not surprising they want to hold on to him, and Dimitroff said they could do an extension for him despite having Freeman locked up long-term. In fantasy drafts this summer, Coleman will be one of the best mid-round picks despite not being the starter in Atlanta.

Brandon Doughty | Free Agent QB

The Cardinals claimed quarterback Brandon Doughty.

Doughty was just waived by the Dolphins yesterday, and the Cardinals picked him up. Arizona also picked up quarterback Alek Torgersen off waivers, which isn’t surprising considering they only had Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon on the roster before today. Doughty and Torgerson might compete for one roster spot this season.

Mike Gillislee | Saints RB

Mike Gillislee is off the injury report.

After a knee injury forced Gillislee out of New England’s Christmas Even win over Buffalo, he missed Week 17, the Divisional Round, and the AFC Championship. It’s good to see Gillislee is now healthy, but he’s no lock to play in Super Bowl LII, as Dion Lewis, James White, Rex Burkhead, and Brandon Bolden are all set to be active for the game and the Patriots might not want five running backs suited up. Gillislee’s game on Christmas Eve was the only game he appeared in since October, as he had been a healthy scratch for most of the end of the season.

Justin Hunter | Free Agent WR

The Steelers re-signed Justin Hunter to a one-year deal.

Hunter is a very good teammate that contributes on special teams and will chip in on offense when called upon. It’s not surprising Pittsburgh wanted to bring him back. Hunter might push for more snaps on the outside this season, especially if the Steelers part ways with Martavis Bryant.

Kirk Cousins | Falcons QB

NFL Network: The Vikings are going to go after quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency.

Both Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network have reported that Minnesota will go after who is considered by many to be the top free agent available come March. And if you’re Cousins, there probably isn’t a better situation out there than with the Vikings, who might have the best defense in the NFL and also have a strong running game and two very good receivers on the outside including All-Pro Adam Thielen. Also, the Vikings play in a dome, which could be appealing to Cousins. This could be the match when free agency comes, and we’ll find out what happens in a few weeks.
