Join now >Stephen Carlson (knee) is likely out for the year, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Carlson was injured in last night’s preseason opener, and it unfortunately looks like the issue will end his season. The Browns are still in very good shape at tight end, but the former undrafted free agent out of Princeton was hoping to again make the team as depth.

Jonnu Smith has a sprained ankle.
It’s thankfully a low-ankle sprain for Smith, and ESPN’s Mike Reiss says “it isn’t considered a serious injury” based on the initial evaluation. This is good news after Smith limped off this morning at Patriots practice, and we wouldn’t think his Week 1 is in jeopardy. However, Smith’s preseason might be done if he can’t get to 100% in the next couple of weeks.

The Patriots released Marvin Hall.
A bunch of cuts are going to happen this week as teams work their way to 53-man rosters for the regular season. At least this gives Hall an early opportunity to land with another team as a potential deep threat.

The Titans are signing Deon Yelder.
Tennessee has a fairly open depth chart behind Anthony Firkser, so Yelder will at least be a name to monitor if he can show enough to make the team. This signing could end the chances of veteran Delanie Walker coming back to Tennessee after some rumors about him possibly coming back popped up over the summer.

Washington released Kelvin Harmon.
Harmon worked his way back from a torn ACL, and this release is somewhat of a surprise. The good news is the release comes early in the preseason, so the big receiver should be able to land with a new squad soon.

Washington released Lamar Miller.
Washington is very deep at running back, so they are parting ways with the veteran Miller after re-signing him this offseason. Miller shouldn’t have much trouble landing with a new team soon.

Washington activated Curtis Samuel from the PUP list.
Samuel has made enough progress from his groin injury that he can get on the practice field and work his way into game action. This makes us feel a lot better about Samuel’s Week 1 status. He should be ready to go.
