He also caught a three-yard pass. The rookie got the start with Robert Kelley and the starters resting, but he didn’t find much room to run. Perine doesn’t look like a real threat to unseat Kelley early in the season, but we still like him as a late-round pick with the hopes that he can get more comfortable as the season progresses.

Josh Johnson plays great in Giants’ final preseason game.
Johnson did well to match Geno Smith, who went 10/11 for 111 yards and a touchdown, by going 11/14 for 135 yards and a touchdown. The problem is the Giants probably won’t be keeping four quarterbacks, which might leave Johnson as the odd man out with the Giants. Final cuts are Saturday at 4:00 PM ET, and Johnson likely wouldn’t have much trouble finding another team if he is released.

Curtis Samuel leaves Panthers’ fourth preseason game early with ankle injury.
He caught two passes for five yards before exiting, and the injury isn’t considered serious. Samuel might start slow this season after missing much of the preseason with hamstring issues—and injuries remain a concern for him—but he’s got the talent to eventually make a big impact for Carolina.

Justin Hunter scores 58-yard touchdown in preseason finale.
Hunter caught three passes for 75 yards and the score, which came from Joshua Dobbs. Pittsburgh has a bunch of talent at wideout, but the former first-round pick might have shown enough to stick around. We’ll know within a couple days.
9/1/17 - 11:06 AM ET
Terrell Watson operates as workhorse in Steelers’ preseason finale.
Watson rushed 19 times for 89 yards and caught two passes for five yards. The 24-year-old is battling for a roster spot in Pittsburgh, and he showed a lot this preseason that might have earned him one. Teams need to cut their rosters to 53 on Saturday.
9/1/17 - 11:04 AM ET
Geno Smith plays great in Giants’ fourth preseason game.
Smith was very sharp in the exhibition versus New England, going 10/11 for 111 yards and a touchdown. The Giants might have something with Smith, who it just didn’t work out for with the other New York team after he was punched in the jaw. He’ll be the backup behind Eli Manning this season, and don’t count out the Giants keeping him around to compete for the starting job post-Eli. Smith has a compatible skill set with Ben McAdoo’s offense.
9/1/17 - 11:04 AM ET
Joshua Dobbs scores game-winning touchdown in preseason finale.
It was a one-yard touchdown run with just a few seconds left on the clock. Passing, the rookie was 16/23 for 212 yards and one touchdown. Dobbs will be behind Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones in 2017.
