Join now >Browns name rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer as the starter for Week 3 of the preseason.
Head coach Hue Jackson released a statement that says he informed the quarterbacks of the decision and Kizer has been working hard to develop. Jackson added, “we are very excited about seeing DeShone in the role of starter for this week, as he is certainly positioning himself well to earn the starting job heading into the regular season.” Unless Kizer performs very poorly in the third preseason game, he’ll be under center for Week 1 against the Steelers. From the outside, it certainly looks like Jackson has wanted Kizer to start.

Odell Beckham Jr. “could” miss Week 1, according to ESPN.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jordan Raanan report a source says it’s “not out of the question he could miss a week or two of the regular season.” Of course he “could” miss some regular season time, but we don’t anticipate it unless it’s a high ankle sprain or if there is ligament damage. Unless the Giants are being coy, it only sounds like a normal sprained ankle; in which case, it’d be a major surprise if Beckham wasn’t able to be out there for Week 1.

Le’Veon Bell says on Twitter that he will report to the Steelers on the first day of September.
Bell responded to a new fantasy football player asking when he will return to the team by replying, “9-1-17.” That would give him less than 10 days to get ready for Week 1 of the regular season and the Cleveland Browns, but it isn’t really a concern for arguably the best running back in the league. Bell should be a top-three fantasy pick in all formats.

Jaelen Strong is appealing his one-game suspension for marijuana.
There has not been much talk at all about this, probably because it happened in February 2016. Per NFL rules, the one-game suspension is mandated for the marijuana suspension. Strong is probably going to have trouble winning this appeal, and the Texans are likely to be with a thin receiving corps for Week 1.

Ty Montgomery is back at practice for the Packers.
Montgomery missed about a week with a leg injury, but is fully participating in practice again. He reportedly ran well and looked great in pass protection in 11-on-11 drills. There’s no question Montgomery will open the season as the starter for the Packers, it’s just a matter of how much work he gets. Montgomery is currently going in side the top 50 in most fantasy drafts.

Patriots running back Mike Gillislee practiced fully today.
After missing not practicing fully for the last two weeks, Gillislee said he feels 100%. After Rex Burkhead had an excellent showing with the starters in last Saturday’s preseason game against the Texans, Gillislee healed up quickly and got back out on the field. It’s been thought that Gillislee is the top option at the goal line for New England, but everything is up in the air at this point. We would say you can look for some clarity in the Week 3 “dress rehearsal” preseason game this Friday, but this backfield situation could turn out to be frustrating all season regardless.

The x-rays were negative on Brandon Marshall’s shoulder.
Head coach Ben McAdoo said Marshall “has a shoulder” and didn’t sound too concerned. The negative x-rays are obviously a positive, and this injury shouldn’t be much of an issue for B-Marsh. We’ll see if Marshall is able to get out there against his old Jets team on Saturday night in a game that could have some bad blood based off some of the comments from the Jets’ Sheldon Richardson.
