DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

The Titans officially released DeShone Kizer.

As was reported, Kizer is being released to make room for new backup Matt Barkley. The former second-round pick of the Browns will look to land with a new squad during camp, hopefully with a shot for a good amount of playing time this preseason.

The Titans are signing DeShone Kizer to their practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Kizer recently had a tryout with Chicago, but he’s ending up in Tennessee as depth behind Ryan Tannehill. We’ll see if the former Notre Dame standout can rejuvenate his career in a new spot.

The Raiders released DeShone Kizer from the practice squad.

This move is happening as Las Vegas activates Marcus Mariota for practice. The Raiders also have Nathan Peterman currently on the active roster, and he might eventually go down to the practice squad when Mariota is activated off injured reserve.

The Raiders cut DeShone Kizer, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Las Vegas did not add any quarterbacks during the draft, but the top two on their depth chart is locked in with Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota, with Nathan Peterman also currently in the mix. Kizer, a second-round pick of the Browns in 2017, is set to join his fourth NFL team in four seasons.

The Raiders claimed DeShone Kizer.

Oakland kept three quarterbacks (Derek Carr, Mike Glennon, and Nathan Peterman) on their roster yesterday, but it looks like they're going to have to make a tough decision and release one of Glennon or Peterman. Kizer has physical tools that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock probably think they can work with.

The Packers are cutting DeShone Kizer, according to ESPN.

This is a bit of a surprise, but Green Bay will almost certainly be brining in a veteran backup for Aaron Rodgers. Kizer said earlier this offseason that he sees himself as future Super Bowl MVP. It'll be interesting to see where he lands.

DeShone Kizer throws one interception in Week 17.

Kizer was 16/35 for 132 yards and one interception along with four carries for 40 yards while filling in for Aaron Rodgers, who left the game with a concussion, against the Lions. Entering his third season, Kizer will look to remain the backup in Green Bay next year.

DeShone Kizer plays in Week 1.

When Rodgers left with what appeared to be a serious knee injury, Kizer had the tough task of coming in relief to finish the second half. Kizer went 4/7 for 55 passing yards, one interception for a touchdown by Khalil Mack, and one lost fumble (caused by Mack). The pick-six was on a screen pass that was not set up well at all. Rodgers has said he’s going to continue playing, so Kizer hopefully won’t have to see the field again and can continue to sit and develop this season.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy talks up DeShone Kizer.

McCarthy said he believed Kizer, who was acquired in a trade with the Browns earlier this offseason, "has starter ability in this league" and would have been grouped in with the top five quarterbacks from this year's draft. Remember, Kizer left Notre Dame with two years of eligibility left, which Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly said he thought was a bad idea. McCarthy also said that Kizer has "exceptional" arm talent, and he likes that Kizer can still be developed. This could just be McCarthy talking up Kizer to eventually use him as a trade chip in a few years, but Kizer will be competing for the backup job in Green Bay this season.

The Packers are trading for quarterback DeShone Kizer, according to Ian Rapoport.

Cleveland is wheeling and dealing right now, as Kizer is apparently headed back to Green Bay in the trade of cornerback Demarious Randall. Kizer was a second-round selection from Notre Dame last year, and he frankly probably wasn't ready to step right in as a Week 1 starter (his college coach Brian Kelly basically said he should have stayed in school), but that didn't stop Hue Jackson from putting the young quarterback in that position. Now, Kizer will compete with Brett Hundley for the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, and it's a good spot for him to develop his skill set, as Mike McCarthy is one of the best coaches of quarterbacks in the league.

DeShone Kizer, Browns fall to 0-16 with 28-24 loss to the Steelers.

Kizer was 16/30 for 314 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also rushed six times for 61 yards. It was probably the best game of the season for the rookie quarterback, but he showed inexcusable immaturity issues at the end of the game when he acted like a crybaby when Corey Coleman's drop essentially ended things. Kizer's season ends with 15 starts where he completed 53.6% of his passes for 2,894 yards, 11 touchdowns, and a league-high 22 interceptions. He also rushed 77 times for 419 yards and five scores, but fumbled nine times (lost six). It would be a surprise if the Browns didn't go after a quarterback with one of their top-four picks in April's draft, but if Kizer returns as the starter with an improved supporting cast, he has theoretical upside as a fantasy option in 2018 on a roster that doesn't lack talent.

DeShone Kizer throws two interceptions as Browns drop to 0-15.

There was some snow in Chicago, but Kizer didn't play too well in the loss. The rookie quarterback was 18/36 for 182 yards and two interceptions, along with three carries for eight yards. Kizer will attempt to help his team avoid 0-16 when they face the Steelers next weekend, and it'll probably be Kizer's last start for the team, as they are almost certain to bring in another quarterback this offseason.

DeShone Kizer struggles as Browns drop to 0-14.

Kizer was 20/37 for 146 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also rushed seven times for 35 yards and lost a fumble that the Ravens recovered for a touchdown. Cleveland now has two more chances to avoid 0-16, but both games are on the road. Cody Kessler would give them their best chance to pickup a win, but it doesn't look like he will get a chance this year. Kizer won't be a fantasy option on Christmas Eve against the Bears.

DeShone Kizer has up-and-down game in Browns' loss.

Kizer was 20/28 for 214 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions against the Packers, as the Browns dropped to 0-13. The first touchdown was on the opening drive for Cleveland, as he hit Josh Gordon for an 18-yard touchdown on a nice pass deep over the middle. Then he hit Duke Johnson Jr. and Corey Coleman for a couple more scores. The final interception for Kizer was just bad, as he was under pressure and attempted to still make a throw, but it was easily deflected about 20 yards into the air before it was picked off by the Packers. Kizer is not a fantasy option against the Ravens next week.

DeShone Kizer throws a touchdown as Browns drop to 0-12.

Kizer was 15/32 for 215 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and a fumble lost, along with five carries for 56 yards int he loss to the Chargers. The touchdown was on a seam route to rookie tight end David Njoku, and the interception was just a really terrible decision thrown into triple coverage. Kizer did try to connect with Josh Gordon 11 times, and they had 85 yards in the game, but even the All-Pro's presence probably isn't enough to make Kizer a viable fantasy quarterback this season.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer, Browns fall to 0-11 with 30-16 loss to Cincinnati.

Kizer was 18/31 for 268 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He added nine carries for 39 yards and a score, which came from three yards away in the fourth quarter. The rookie also left briefly to be check for a concussion, but he was cleared. Cleveland got their only win of 2016 against the Chargers, but it's unlikely they're able to beat them next week. Kizer isn't a recommended fantasy option against the underrated LA defense.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer struggles in loss to Jacksonville.

The Jaguars predictably dominated defensively against the Browns, as they forced four turnovers from Kizer and racked up five sacks in the game, including a strip sack for a touchdown to seal it at the end. Overall, Kizer was 16/32 for 179 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and two fumbles lost, while adding five carries for 22 yards. The score was on a seam route to Duke Johnson for 27 yards. Kizer's last interception appeared to be a very inaccurate throw that went right to Jaguars cornerback A.J. Bouye. The Browns are sticking with Kizer as the starter, but he's not a fantasy option.

DeShone Kizer, Browns fall to 0-9 with 38-24 loss to the Lions.

Kizer was 21/37 for 232 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also rushed seven times for 57 yards and another score. It was probably Kizer's best game of the season, but it didn't come without mistakes. The biggest one was the final play of the first half that should probably give owner Jimmy Haslam reason to make changes immediately, as Kizer tried sneaking it with no timeouts in the red zone, and Cleveland wasn't able spike it to give them a shot at a field goal before time expired. Despite the good fantasy day, there's no way Kizer can be in fantasy lineups against Jacksonville's elite defense next Sunday.

DeShone Kizer returns against the Lions.

Kizer is back after missing most of the fourth quarter, and he'll try to help lead the Browns to a comeback.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer leaves game after taking a shot to the ribs.

Kizer was sacked to end the third quarter and is now headed to the locker room, so he might be done for the day. The Browns are tied with the Lions, 24-24, and Cody Kessler is now in the game for Cleveland. Before leaving, Kizer was 15/24 for 178 yards and one touchdown while adding seven carries for 57 yards and another touchdown on the ground via a quarterback sneak. Coming out of the bye, this was Kizer's best game of the season.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer avoids turnovers but the Browns drop to 0-8.

Against a tough defense like Minnesota’s, it was good to see the rookie avoid turnovers, but the Browns couldn’t get much going offensively. Kizer was 18/34 for 179 yards, along with five carries for 18 yards and a touchdown on a quarterback sneak. Kizer is off the fantasy radar at the moment.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer has been named the Browns starting quarterback.

Kizer was benched for the second time this year in Sunday's loss to the Titans, and now they are going right back to him this week against the Vikings in London. It'd be really interesting to find out whose decision it is to keep starting Kizer, as he's shown some major immaturity off the field along with his struggles on the field. The dominant Vikings defense is clearly the top D/ST fantasy option for Week 8.

The Browns bench DeShone Kizer again.

The rookie is really struggling in his first year in the NFL, as this is already the second time this season he's been benched. Before leaving, Kizer was 12/20 for 114 yards and two interceptions in what could be his last start of the season. Second-year quarterback Cody Kessler is now in the game, and he might not give up the starting job. The Browns should probably stick with him if he does even average, as the constant switching of quarterbacks probably isn't inspiring confidence in a team that's having trouble winning games.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

The Browns have named DeShone Kizer as their starting quarterback.

After one game on the bench in favor of Kevin Hogan, the second-round rookie is back as the starter for the Browns. With a completion percentage under 50% in each of his last four games and a 3:9 TD/INT ratio on the season, Kizer will look to improve in a major way and show he can quarterback the team beyond this season. It is disappointing that Cody Kessler, who played very well as a rookie last season, isn't getting an opportunity despite the poor play by Kizer. After adding a lot of talent to the team this offseason and not seeing results yet, Hue Jackson might be on the hot seat needing to show the rookie they drafted can be their guy for the future. With Kizer under center, the Browns are the best target for streaming D/ST against this season—this week, it's the Titans.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

The Browns benched DeShone Kizer for second-straight week.

The rookie quarterback continues to struggle early in his NFL career, as he was 8/17 for 87 yards and an interception. The interception was on a really paid decision on a pass that was undercut, and he simply is not playing well. Kevin Hogan is in at quarterback to start the second half with the Browns down 3-0.

DeShone Kizer struggles again as Browns fall to 0-4.

The second-round rookie quarterback from Notre Dame continues to have trouble, as he was 16/34 for 118 yards and one interception before getting benched in the fourth quarter against he Bengals. Browns head coach Hue Jackson said he's committed to Kizer as his starter, so we'll see him out there next week against the Jets. Kizer is currently on pace for 3,056 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions, so hopefully he starts improving as he gets more time.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer struggles again; Browns drop to 0-3.

The second-round rookie was 22/47 for 242 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions against the Colts. He did show his ability on the ground, carrying seven times for 44 yards and a touchdown, but he again struggled a bit as a passer. Kizer has shown some flashes because he's a talented player, but the Browns are going to struggle to win games if he doesn't progress throughout the season. He gets the Bengals at home next Sunday and is not a recommended fantasy option.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer turns it over four times in 24-10 loss to the Ravens.

Kizer was 15/31 for 182 yards and three interceptions, plus a lost fumble on a sack. The rookie didn't even play the whole game due to a migraine, but he eventually returned after backup Kevin Hogan threw 11 passes. Kizer also rushed five times for 26 yards, but it wasn't enough to save another concerning performance. Even though the Ravens have an elite defense, Hue Jackson probably made a mistake in thinking the former Notre Dame quarterback could come in and win games after not being able to do so in college. The rushing ability makes Kizer a streaming option in Week 3 against the Colts, but we wouldn't recommend him.

DeShone Kizer (migraine) was cleared to return in Week 2.

Kevin Hogan started the second half and is moving the ball well against Baltimore, but Kizer is back in the game for Cleveland.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer has a migraine and is questionable to return.

Kevin Hogan is in at quarterback for the Browns against Baltimore. Kizer threw an interception and fumbled on a sack so far, but hopefully he's OK and able to get back in the game.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer was 20/30 for 222 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in his NFL debut.

The rookie also rushed five times for 17 yards and a touchdown as the Browns fell to the Steelers 21-18. Kizer scored on a quarterback sneak in the second quarter and connected with Corey Coleman for a three-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to bring the game within three, but the result never seemed in question for Pittsburgh. Kizer's interception was a questionable throw right to the defender, and he held the ball too long at times, absorbing seven sacks. Still, his ability as a rusher could put him in streaming consideration—but that won't be the case next week on the road against the Ravens.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

The Browns have named DeShone Kizer the starting quarterback for Week 1.

This was fully expected after Kizer started the Browns' third preseason game. The second-round pick only completed 6/18 passes last night in the start, but head coach Hue Jackson must have seen enough to make things official. We still think Cody Kessler is the best quarterback on the roster, but it appears Jackson is all-in on the rookie. Expectations should be tempered after Kizer struggled to win at Notre Dame, and Cleveland has a tough schedule to start the season, including against Pittsburgh in the opener.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer has reportedly won the Browns' starting quarterback job.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Browns head coach Hue Jackson will officially name Kizer the starter today. Jackson is putting a lot of trust in the second-round pick, and only time will tell how it works out for him. Kizer struggled with accuracy the last two preseason games, but he'll try to grow and improve this season. The official announcement should come later today.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer puts up 28.2 quarterback rating in Browns' third preseason game.

Kizer started the game as the likely Week 1 starter for the Browns and was 6/18 for 93 yards and an interception. Kizer did have a couple drops by his receivers, including on by Kenny Britt near the end zone, but the rookie struggled some with accuracy, missing high in particular. The interception came when Kizer forces a ball into coverage and it was deflected then picked off by cornerback Vernon Hargreaves. Kizer did show his arm strength and athleticism in the game, and Browns head coach Hue Jackson must be interested in working with that this season.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

Browns name rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer as the starter for Week 3 of the preseason.

Head coach Hue Jackson released a statement that says he informed the quarterbacks of the decision and Kizer has been working hard to develop. Jackson added, "we are very excited about seeing DeShone in the role of starter for this week, as he is certainly positioning himself well to earn the starting job heading into the regular season." Unless Kizer performs very poorly in the third preseason game, he'll be under center for Week 1 against the Steelers. From the outside, it certainly looks like Jackson has wanted Kizer to start.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

DeShone Kizer runs for touchdown in second preseason game.

The second-round rookie from Notre Dame entered the game after Brock Osweiler and went 8/13 for 74 yards, while also carrying five times for 35 yards with a quarterback sneak for a touchdown. He wasn't very impressive throwing the ball but neither was Osweiler, who also struggled with ball placement. It kind of seems like Hue Jackson, who will name a starter by Wednesday, has wanted Kizer to win the starting job; so don't be surprised if the rookie starts for the Browns to open the season.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

Kizer throws game-winning touchdown in first NFL action.

Playing behind Brock Osweiler and Cody Kessler, the rookie had the whole second half to himself and was 11/18 for 184 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed three times for 12 yards. Kizer couldn't get the offense moving in the third quarter, but he was able to connect on a couple deep passes, including the 45-yard game-winner. He also had a 52-yard pass that was just inches from another score because it was slightly underthrown. Given a full half to work with, it seems like Hue Jackson has every intention of building Kizer up to be the Week 1 starter. We'll see who gets the start on Monday Night Football versus the Giants in the next preseason game.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

Browns receiver Kenny Britt thinks DeShone Kizer can be "one of the great ones."

The veteran receiver has been very impressed with the rookie quarterback's growth throughout the preseason and the beginning of training camp. Second-year quarterback Cody Kessler is expected to be the starter after performing well last season, but Kizer looks like he'll force a tough decision from the Browns. Keep an eye on Kizer in dynasty leagues, as the Browns are a potential team on the upswing.

DeShone Kizer | Free Agent QB

The Browns select Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer with the 52nd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

They use one of their many picks over the next couple of years to take a chance on a quarterback. Kizer has prototypical size, good athleticism, and a very good arm, but he struggled at times at Notre Dame. His own coach at Notre Dame, Brian Kelly, said he thought Kizer should have come back to school. Cody Kessler will probably start for the Browns this season, but Kizer might have a chance to compete for the job. Hue Jackson will try to mold Kizer into a good starter in the league.
