Join now >Mike Evans peppered with targets in preseason opener.
Jameis Winston and the first-team offense actually got quite a bit of playing time, as the young quarterback threw it 13 times. Evans was on the receiving end of four of his quarterback’s nine completions, as the two connected for 58 yards. We are a little concerned that Evans might not be the target monster he was a season ago after the Bucs added DeSean Jackson, O.J. Howard, and Chris Godwin this offseason, but it didn’t look like it in the first preseason game. Tampa Bay plays Jacksonville next time out.

Eagles Carson Wentz might only play about a series in the team’s second preseason game.
Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he’s “leaning” towards playing Wentz about the same about as the did last Thursday in the preseason opener. Wentz played in only one series in the opener, so expect about a series or two on Thursday against Buffalo. You would think the second-year quarterback would play at least over a quarter in the third preseason game in a couple weeks. Perhaps the lack of playing time indicates the team is happy with where Wentz is.

Chiefs rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes II plays well in preseason debut.
The tenth overall pick in the draft was 7/9 for 49 yards and a touchdown. The TD came on a one-yard pass in the third quarter of the game. Mahomes was behind Tyler Bray, but the rookie might be able to take over the backup job at some point this year. Ideally, Alex Smith will stay healthy and start all 16+ games for Kansas City, though.

Redskins receiver Jamison Crowder returned to practice fully.
Crowder dealt with a hamstring injury that forced him to miss a few practices and the team’s first preseason game, but he’s back as a full participant in practice. He should be good to go this Saturday night against the Packers. Crowder is one of the better mid-round targets in fantasy leagues, with targets up for grabs in the Redskins offense after DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon left in free agency.

Alex Smith leads TD drive on only series in preseason opener.
Smith’s first throw against the Niners was a prompt 32-yard deep ball to new number one receiver Tyreek Hill. He also kept the drive going with a ten-yard scramble to pick up a first down. Smith was 4/6 for 48 yards overall. After the Chiefs traded up for his heir apparent Patrick Mahomes in the draft, look for the veteran starter to play with a chip on his shoulder this season, which could lead to more aggressive shots down field and more running from him. the Chiefs face the Bengals next Saturday in Week 2 of the preseason.

Alshon Jeffery is likely to play in Thursday’s preseason game.
The Eagles have used kid gloves with their number one receiver, but head coach Doug Pederson indicated he will probably play in the team’s second preseason game this Thursday. With the way the team is treating him, expect Jeffery to play for only a series or two in the game.

Rodgers sees work with first-team offense in Bucs’ first exhibition.
The team is preparing for life without Doug Martin (for the first three games of the regular season) by giving the presumed fill-in some run with Jameis Winston and the rest of the starters. Rodgers rushed three times for 11 yards and caught a five-yard pass last night, and one of the carries came near the goal line. The coaching staff seems to really like him dating back to last year, so Jacquizz should already have the early-season starter role locked up.
