Join now >Rico Gathers left Cowboys practice early last night.
The athletic Cowboys tight end was in a helmet-to-helmet collision during a 7-on-7 drill in practice. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said it was “something with his jaw that might have some type of concussion aspects to it.” Gathers is having an outstanding preseason, and hopefully he ends up being fine.

Rookie Evan Engram catches one pass in first NFL preseason game.
Engram’s reception was for 11 yards. The rookie looks primed for the starting role for the Giants, and he’s a solid selection late in fantasy drafts as someone with good red zone potential for Eli Manning.

Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi is out of concussion protocol.
Ajayi was close to getting fully cleared, and he now got over the final hurdle to get out of concussion protocol. The third-year back missed a couple of weeks of practice, but thankfully he’s cleared now at at 100%. Ajayi will probably be on the field for this Thursday’s preseason game against the Ravens.

Travis Rudolph gets a catch and a carry in preseason debut.
The undrafted receiver out of Florida State had a 13-yard carry and a 15-yard reception. Rudolph is looking to make the final roster for the Giants as a rookie.

John Brown was gloomy after practice, according to multiple reports.
Brown isn’t 100% recovered from his quad injury, but practiced on a limited basis today. The young Cardinals receiver said he isn’t at full strength and will come back fully when he’s ready, adding “My body is different than others’. They expect me to come back fast, but I can’t. I’m all right, but I’m not where I want to be at.” It’s hard not to feel sorry for Brown, who dealt with sickle cell traits last year that led to leg problems, and he’s now dealing with quad issues this year. Jaron Brown is currently the number two receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald for the Cardinals, but John Brown will try to work his way back and into that role.

Roger Lewis starts in Giants preseason opener.
Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard didn’t play in the game, so Lewis got the start. The second-year receiver will fill a backup role behind OBJ, Shepard, and Brandon Marshall this season.

Tajae Sharpe is close to returning for the Titans.
The second-year receiver has been on the PUP since the start of training camp a few weeks ago, and he’s still getting to 100% after his foot surgery for a stress fracture. Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said Sharpe is “getting close” to returning and that they’ll see with him after the Panthers game this Saturday, so it looks like Sharpe could finally be activated from the PUP next week.
