Join now >The Texans signed receiver Bruce Ellington.
Ellington was previously cut by the 49ers, then claimed and cut by the Jets after a failed physical, and now Houston signed him as a free agent. With receiver Will Fuller out for 2-3 months with a broken collarbone, Ellington might be able to both make the team and carve out a role with the Texans.

Browns GM Sashi Brown on Osweiler: “It would be surprising if he wasn’t on the roster.”
Making the comments on a local Cleveland radio station, Brown added, “He brings experience.” The general manager could have said nothing at all, but it’s not exactly a full-fledged endorsement for Osweiler. If Cleveland was sold on Oswiler being on the roster for the regular season, he probably would have made that clear. Head coach Hue Jackson seems to be preparing DeShone Kizer to be the Week 1 starter, and he might start the rookie as soon as Monday night against the Giants. Even if Osweiler won the starting job, he wouldn’t be a fantasy option.

Vikings running back Bishop Sankey is out for the season with a torn ACL.
He injured his knee in last night’s preseason game, and Ian Rapoport reports he tore his ACL. This makes you feel just terrible for Sankey, as the 2014 second-round pick was looking to stick around with Minnesota. Still, Sankey will be only 25 this September, and will have almost a full year to recover for training camp in 2018, so hopefully a team gives him an opportunity.

Leonard Fournette won’t play in this Thursday’s preseason game.
Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone told this to reporters and it’s the least bit surprising. It was revealed yesterday that Fournette is dealing with a “nagging” foot and that the team is taking a cautious approach with their rookie running back. Unless he gets back to 100%, Fournette very likely will not be playing in the third preseason game either. Receiver Marqise Lee, who is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, also will not play on Thursday.

Ezekiel Elliott is officially appealing his six-game suspension.
This is the least bit surprising, as Elliott has proclaimed his innocence in the situation. Among the things written in the statement is: “The NFL’s findings are replete with factual inaccuracies and erroneous conclusions and it ‘cherry picks’ so called evidence to support its conclusion while ignoring other critical evidence.” This could be a very long process, as Elliott and the NFLPA reportedly might also take the NFL to court over this. As of now, you should expect Elliott to be suspended this season, but don’t be surprised if it gets delayed until 2018. It would be a shock if Elliott gets a reduction or elimination of his current six-game suspension, though, as the NFL also said Elliott could face “banishment” from the league if he has another domestic violence violation.

Talk continues of Julio Jones getting more red zone targets.
Kelsey Conway of the Falcons official website tweeted there “seems to be a real emphasis” to get Julio more targets in the red zone during training camp, while adding that head coach Dan Quinn says Jones has been “a real factor” in that area. Jones averages the most receiving yards per game in NFL history, but his touchdown totals haven’t been as high other top receivers—that appears set to change this season. New offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian previously said he wants to emphasize getting Jones the ball in the red zone, and it’s not like the All-Pro receiver isn’t great at everything. He’s an obvious strong first-round pick in fantasy leagues.

Joe Flacco’s back is making “good” progress; he won’t play this preseason.
The Ravens just announced that their quarterback will practice during the preseason, but he won’t play in any games. The plan is to have Flacco ready for September 10 for the season opener against the Bengals. This is called a more “definite timeframe” by the team, and it looks like Flacco should be good to go for the opening game. For new addition Jeremy Maclin in particular, this isn’t the greatest news as they need to gain chemistry—but it’s better than Flacco being out for the entire season. Baltimore is taking it slow with their franchise quarterback so they have him for 16 games and possibly beyond in the playoffs. Flacco probably shouldn’t be a selection until late in fantasy drafts, given all the time he is missing. He does offer upside with perhaps his best supporting cast ever, though.
