Join now >Max McCaffrey catches three passes for the Packers in preseason opener.
He had 60 yards and a long of 34. McCaffrey also took a late hit out of bounds, but it wasn’t called. The second-year receiver is in the mix for a roster spot on the Packers, but could be a practice squad candidate if not.

Duke Johnson plays the slot with first-team offense in preseason opener.
The explosive back played the slot in Cleveland’s team scrimmage, and it looks to be something that will continue when real games begin after he did so again last night. Johnson caught a nine-yard pass and also rushed once for five yards. Everyone will get a chance to watch Duke and the Browns offense in two Mondays from now, as the Cleveland plays the New York Giants on MNF.

Matt Dayes looks decent on six touches in NFL debut.
The seventh-round pick rushed three times for nine yards and a touchdown, adding three catches for eight yards. Dayes has been impressive for the Browns in training camp, and he was able to find the end zone last night. It’s surprising that he only saw three carries, but Dayes might actually be Isaiah Crowell’s top handcuff with Duke Johnson getting a lot of action at wide receiver. He should get more touches next time out against the Giants.

Crowell leads Browns in carries for preseason opener.
The Browns starter rushed six times for 15 yards and caught one pass for nine yards. With Duke Johnson playing a lot at wide receiver (mostly in the slot), Crowell is the clear lead back for Cleveland. He will try to be better in the next exhibition versus a stringy Giants defense.

Packers receiver DeAngelo Yancey had three receptions for 67 yards in Week 1 of the preseason.
The fifth-round rookie receiver from Purdue showed he can get behind the defense on a couple occasions, including a 46-yard reception. Green Bay has a deep receiving corps, but Yancey—who did fumble but recovered it—helped his chances by leading the team in receiving in the opening game of the preseason.

Brock Osweiler struggles in first start with Browns.
Osweiler started and played into the second quarter, but he was just 6/14 for 42 yards; he simply couldn’t get the offense moving. It would be surprising if Osweiler got another chance to start next time out against the Giants on MNF, as Hue Jackson will probably give Cody Kessler or DeShone Kizer a chance to play with the first team.

Rookie running back Aaron Jones gets little work in first preseason game.
Jones had two carries for no yards and one reception for no yards. Fellow rookie Jamaal Williams appears to be in the lead for the main backup role behind Ty Montgomery.
