WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

The Saints waived/injured Matthew Dayes.

It's unclear what type of injury Dayes is dealing with, but he'll revert back to the injured reserve of the Saints if he clears waivers.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Matt Dayes did not receive a touch in Week 10.

Dayes, who was just promoted from the practice squad earlier today, was basically insurance for Matt Breida and Alfred Morris. It didn't appear Dayes got on the field for the Niners tonight, but he'll look to carve out a role moving forward.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

The Niners have promoted Matt Dayes to the active roster.

Dayes was signed to San Francisco’s backfield last month, and no he’ll get a crack on game day with Raheem Mostert (forearm) done for the season. It’ll be interesting to see how much Kyle Shanahan plays Dayes. He’s not a recommended fantasy option yet.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

The Niners signed Matt Dayes to their practice squad, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Dayes spent all of last season with the Browns, and now he joins a Niners team that has Jerick McKinnon (knee) out for the season and Matt Breida dealing with an ankle injury. As Rapoport notes, just adding Dayes to the practice squad probably indicates the ankle injury Breida is dealing with isn't serious. Dayes is not a fantasy option at the moment.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Matt Dayes gets one carry in Week 16.

Dayes gained three yards on his lone attempt. Perhaps he'll get more work in Week 17, but Dayes isn't a fantasy option.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Matt Dayes catches one pass in Week 11.

Dayes wasn't given a carry versus the Jaguars, but he caught one of two targets for five yards. Perhaps he'll get more work moving forward, but Dayes isn't a fantasy option right now.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Matt Dayes catches one pass in Week 8.

Dayes’ reception on his lone target went for 15 yards. He also did a nice job in pass protection when he was in there, and he could maybe get some more work in the backfield moving forward.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Matt Dayes rushed three times for seven yards in his NFL debut.

He also caught two passes for nine yards. Dayes was the only running back other than Isaiah Crowell to receive a carry, so he's definitely a name to watch on a team with a strong offensive line. The Browns travel to Baltimore next Sunday.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Matt Dayes rushed ten times for 31 yards in the team's preseason finale.

Dayes also caught two passes for 25 yards. The 22-year-old (on Sunday) looks like a lock for the roster and is definitely a name to keep an eye on. If Isaiah Crowell struggles early, Dayes could potentially unseat him behind a strong offensive line.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Matt Dayes impresses in Week 2 of the preseason.

Dayes carried five times for 15 yards and caught five-of-six targets for 29 yards. While his numbers weren't overly impressive, Dayes ran hard and flashed his ability. The seventh-round rookie looks like he'll definitely make the team as the third running back behind Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson. It's worth noting Crowell is entering a contract year, so keep an eye on Dayes in dynasty leagues.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Matt Dayes looks decent on six touches in NFL debut.

The seventh-round pick rushed three times for nine yards and a touchdown, adding three catches for eight yards. Dayes has been impressive for the Browns in training camp, and he was able to find the end zone last night. It's surprising that he only saw three carries, but Dayes might actually be Isaiah Crowell's top handcuff with Duke Johnson getting a lot of action at wide receiver. He should get more touches next time out against the Giants.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

Browns rookie RB Matthew Dayes "has caught [head coach Hue] Jackson's attention."

Dayes had a couple good runs in the Browns padded practice yesterday. Jackson believes Dayes is motivated after being drafted late in the seventh round, saying: "I think he’s disappointed in that way that he didn’t get picked earlier, but he is demonstrating out here on the field the talent that he has. He has had a great camp so far." Incumbent starter Isaiah Crowell is currently in a contract year, and Dayes is someone to watch as a determined young back.

Matt Dayes | Saints RB

The Browns select NC State running back Matt Dayes with the 252nd pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Dayes took advantage of his touches at NC State, and as a senior he had 249 carries for 1,166 yards and ten touchdowns. Dayes also showed ability as a receiver throughout his four-year career, racking up 98 catches for 933 yards and six touchdowns. While he's not an explosive athlete, he has good vision to pick up yardage. Dayes will have a good chance to win the Browns' number three running back spot in training camp.
