Join now >Sean McVay talks up “mature” rookie receiver Cooper Kupp.
The Rams head coach was asked what he’s seen from third-round pick and said he’s “one of those receivers that sees the game through the quarterback’s eyes” and is “very advanced for a rookie.” McVay also said they are “expecting some good things from him moving forward.” Kupp was listed alongside Robert Woods and Tavon Austin as a starter on the Rams’ first unofficial depth chart yesterday, and he could work his way into being Jared Goff’s number one receiver—or at least a reliable option for Goff—this year.

The 49ers are planning to release receiver Bruce Ellington today, according to Adam Schefter.
Ellington was looking to be a big part of Chip Kelly’s offense last season until he tore his hamstring in training camp and missed the entire season. With a revamped receiving corps in San Fran, Kyle Shanahan and the Niners are deciding to move on from Ellington. The 25-year-old receiver will certainly get interest from teams and should land on his feet.

Marcus Mariota will play in the Titans’ first preseason game on Saturday.
Mariota, who is 100% recovered from his fractured leg suffered on Christmas Eve last year, will be full-go for the first preseason game—the first time he can be hit since his injury last year. Head coach Mike Mularkey didn’t say how long his quarterback will play, but it’s still a great sign and shows Mariota is definitely over the fractured leg. Tight end Delanie Walker says the team’s “biggest key” is to protect Mariota and not allow him to be touched this preseason. Don’t look for the Titans to use Mariota on designed runs too much on Saturday or for the rest of the preseason.

DeMarco Murray is dealing with a hamstring injury.
He didn’t practice today, but it doesn’t sound too serious. The team will probably hold Murray out until he’s back to 100%, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him sit out the team’s first preseason game. Derrick Henry will take almost all of the first-team reps in practice with Murray out.

John Ross says he’s about 90%.
Ross was on SiriusXM NFL Radio and gave the update on his surgically repaired shoulder. The ninth overall pick in this year’s draft has been practicing with the team, but he’s still not 100%. It’s unlikely he plays in the Bengals’ first preseason game this week, but maybe he will for the second or third game. Cincinnati is relying on Ross to use his speed to make a big impact and open things up on offense.

Corey Davis is getting an MRI on his hamstring.
Davis was injured during today’s practice and they are getting an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. Hopefully it’s just minor, but hamstring injuries can obviously linger for quite a while depending on the severity. We should know more in the next 24 hours.

Terrance West thinks you should draft him in fantasy football.
“It’d be smart to grab me. That’s the smart way to do it,” West said. When asked, “why’s that?” by a reporter, the 26-year-old running back responded, “Why’s that? You’ll see.” With Kenneth Dixon out for the season with a torn meniscus, West could be in for a sizable workload this year. Currently going late in fantasy drafts, West will be a big bargain if he lives up to his word.
