Join now >Ravens running back Kenneth Dixon has a meniscus tear, according to Ian Rapoport.
Dixon will get surgery, and they won’t know the extent of the injury until he gets in there, but Rapoport says the “hope” is it’s just at trim of the meniscus. So the timeline for recovery won’t be known until Dixon has the surgery, and it’s possible he misses the entire preseason. Dixon is already suspended for the first four games of the season for PEDs, so he’s likely going to face an uphill battle for playing time when he returns in Week 5 if he does indeed miss most of the preseason. Terrance West has a chance to run away with the early-down role throughout the preseason and first four weeks of the regular season, though the Ravens do really like Dixon.

The Cowboys again say they want to get Zeke more involved in the passing game.
Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown said during the offseason they want to get their star running back more involved as a receiver, and they are making good on that so far during training camp. Elliott has been lining up in different spots on offense, including in the slot and out wide. Quarterback Dak Prescott says Elliott doesn’t even need to play more snaps but they’ll just get him the ball more in different ways. Prescott said running backs are the best players on the team with the ball in their hands, so “it’s important for us to get them the ball.” After catching 33 passes as a rookie, Elliott should have no problem reaching 50 receptions, even if he’s suspended for a couple games.

Marcus Mariota will play at 215 pounds this season, going against the team’s suggestion.
The Titans want Mariota to play around 225-230, but according to Paul Kuharsky, Mariota’s trainer Ryan Flaherty has been trying to get Mariota to play at 215 and the quarterback has finally agreed with him. Flaherty’s reasoning is that he plays the fastest at 215 and defenders “can’t hit what they can’t catch,” adding that quarterbacks normally get injured by getting hit, so they want to avoid those hits. They are focusing on Mariota being “leaner and lighter,” which is great as long as he has good flexibility and pliability to avoid the serious injuries. The team might not be too thrilled about this, but Mariota should be lighter and at his best this season. The arrow is pointing way up for the third-year quarterback, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him vault among the NFL’s elite soon.

Veteran Alfred Morris sees time in the Hall of Fame Game.
Morris had seven carries for 42 yards. It looked like he was running angry, which isn’t a surprise—the three-time 1,000-yard rusher cannot be happy with his current role on the Cowboys. He’d probably prefer to get moved to another team.

DeMarco Murray is recovered from his offseason hand surgery and 100% for training camp.
The team said it expected its starting running back to be good to go for training camp and he is. Rhett Bryan of Titans Radio Network said Murray looks “a little lighter.” The ultra talented and determined second-year back Derrick Henry will certainly take some of Murray’s work, and the Titans could put more on quarterback Marcus Mariota’s plate this season, but Murray should still be among the league leaders in touches. He’s a borderline first round pick in 2017 fantasy drafts.

Jaguars executive VP of football operations Tom Coughlin talks positively of Leonard Fournette.
Dan Graziano of ESPN, who covered Coughlin for quite some time with the Giants, says his description of his rookie running back this morning was “eye-opening.” Coughlin heaped praise on the fourth overall draft, describing him as “powerful, strong, better hands than I ever thought” while adding that Fournette is someone that can “make a big difference” at the end of games as someone that should have gas in his tank. The rookie says the team has “been on me, to get in my books more, learn defenses, stay in shape and keep my weight down, and I like that.” It sure sounds like the Jaguars are prepared to make Leonard Fournette an immediate workhorse back, even with Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon on the roster.

Robert Griffin III will workout for the Chargers tomorrow, according to Adam Schefter.
This will be RGIII’s first known workout since being released by the Browns. Schefter says RGIII has been working out in Florida with Pep Hamilton, so he’s been preparing for his opportunity. For as much publicity Colin Kaepernick gets from the media clamoring for him to have another opportunity, Griffin has also been without a job and is a better quarterback than Kaepernick. Kellen Clemens is the current Chargers backup quarterback, and we would think RGIII has a good chance of getting an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in training camp. The former Rookie of the Year is still only 27.
