WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Jesse James | Bears TE

The Bears are signing Jesse James, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Chicago had a roster spot open with Anthony Miller traded to Houston, and this is another indication that Matt Nagy’s offense will rely more on the tight ends this season. James will compete for a role behind Cole Kmet and Jimmy Graham.

Jesse James | Bears TE

The Lions released Jesse James.

This is in line with a bunch of moves made around the league this week, with many veterans getting cut to create cap space. For now, James is off the fantasy radar in standard leagues.

Jesse James | Bears TE

The Lions have agreed to a contract with Jesse James, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

James will not officially be able to sign a contract with Detroit until the start of the new league year at Wednesday at 4:00 PM ET, but this will almost certainly happen. The big tight end might slide right in as the starting tight end in an offense that added Danny Amendola to fill the slot role earlier today. The Lions also agreed to deals with defensive end Trey Flowers and cornerback Justin Coleman, so they've been active early in the free-agent negotiating window. James will turn just 25 this summer, and he'll likely have some sneaky TE1 upside in 2019 fantasy drafts. This signing is good news for Vance McDonald's fantasy value in Pittsburgh.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James targeted once in win over Cincinnati.

It was an incompletion, and James' season ends with 30 receptions for 423 yards and two touchdowns. An unrestricted free agent, James could be back in Pittsburgh or probably find a similar role somewhere else.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches one pass in Week 15.

James caught a quick pass he took for nine yards against the Patriots. James is a bette real-life contributor than he is reliable fantasy asset at the moment.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches two passes in Week 14.

James gained 28 yards on his two receptions against the Raiders. James next faces the Patriots about a year after the controversial non-catch against New England last season. He's not a recommended fantasy option for second week of the fantasy playoffs.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches one pass in Week 13.

James gained seven yards on his lone receptions against the Steelers. He could find the end zone any given week, but it's difficult to trust James in fantasy lineups.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches four passes in Week 12.

James gained 35 yards on his four receptions (four targets) against the Broncos. James is not a recommended fantasy option at the moment, as he's a better real-life contributor for the Steelers.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James scores in Steelers' win.

James caught one pass for eight yards and a touchdown against the Panthers, with the score coming on a pass in the flat where he was wide-open and basically walked into the end zone. Vance McDonald is the preferred fantasy option at tight end for the Steelers, so James doesn't need to be owned in fantasy leagues.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches 51-yard pass in Week 9 win over Baltimore.

The play came in a key spot on the first drive of the fourth quarter to set up a field goal and extend the lead to 23-13, and Pittsburgh ended up holding on, 23-16, to advance to 5-2-1. James finished with two receptions for 53 yards. The Penn State product is on pace for a career-best 42/772/2 line, but his two biggest games over the first two weeks of the season when Vance McDonald wasn't a factor. That said, he is worth considering as a TE2 option for Week 10 against the Panthers, who have been generous to opposing tight ends.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches two passes in Steelers' win.

James gained nine yards on his two receptions in the Week 8 victory against the Browns. James isn't a reliable fantasy option at the moment.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught five passes for 26 yards in Sunday's win over the Bengals.

James saw a healthy seven targets in a huge divisional victory, but Vance McDonald was featured again after being held to one reception in Week 5. The Penn State product heads into the bye with 16.1 yards per reception on 17 grabs, but he has been held below 30 yards in each of the past four games. That said, he might be worth considering as a flier in an inviting matchup against the Browns when Pittsburgh hits the field in a couple weeks.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches both targets in Week 5.

James gained 20 yards on his two receptions against the Falcons. He remains a key member of Pittsburgh's offense, but James is difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches 23-yard pass in Week 4 loss.

It was his only reception of the game. James got off to a hot start this year, but Vance McDonald looks like the team's No. 1 tight end. We'll see if James can make an impact in what should be a high-scoring affair against the Falcons in Week 5.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches one pass in Pittsburgh's win over Tampa Bay.

It went for seven yards. The Penn State product went off to start the season, but it was Vance McDonald (4/112/1) that exploded on Monday night. Both are worth considering as high-upside TE2 options in Week 4 against the Ravens.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James explodes in loss to the Chiefs.

Despite the return of Vance McDonald (foot), James received a lot of time for the Steelers against Kansas City. James made the most of his five targets, catching all five for 138 yards and a touchdown. The score was a 26-yarder after he got open on a Ben Roethlisberger scramble, and he also had a 46-yard reception. James' performance is likely to ensure he gets a good amount of playing time in Week 3 against the Bucs.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught three passes for 60 yards in Sunday's tie with the Browns.

James drew the start with Vance McDonald inactive, and he got loose for a 37-yard gain against a defense that hasn't covered tight ends well over the past two years. Whether or not McDonald is healthy enough to suit up next week, there are probably better options than James.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James has a back injury.

It's a back contusion for James, but Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he isn't sure of the severity. Starter Vance McDonald is already dealing with a toe issue that's kept him out all summer, and Xavier Grimble has a wrist/thumb injury that's kept him out, so the Steelers have an uncertain tight end situation heading into Week 1. James could be fine quickly, though, and McDonald is thought to be on track for the opener.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches one pass in playoff loss.

James caught a pass in the flat that he took up the sideline for 12 yards. Vance McDonald was the clear top tight end in the loss to the Jaguars, and he'll probably enter 2018 as the top option. James will be entering the final year of his contract next season.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James held in check as Steelers hold off the Browns.

James caught two passes for nine yards in the win. After beginning the season with a two-touchdown performance, the third-year tight end slowed down and finished with a line similar to last year's 39/338/3 with 43 receptions for 372 yards and three scores in 16 games. James will split time with Vance McDonald in a potential playoff run.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James doesn't catch a pass in Week 16.

James was targeted once, but he didn't catch any passes versus the Texans. The big tight end is difficult to trust in fantasy lineups even in a good matchup with the Browns next week.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James the center of attention in thrilling loss to New England.

James caught two passes for seven yards, but the biggest play of the game was the catch he didn't make, as what was originally ruled as a probable game-winning touchdown actually turned out to be an incompletion after a long review. People have complained time and time again about the catch rule, but the correct call was made, and the rule is in place to make what is and isn't a catch completely objective. Of course, the Steelers still had a tremendous chance to at worst send the game into overtime, but Ben Roethlisberger got greedy and tossed an interception into tight coverage on a fake spike to end the game. James will be a TE2 on Christmas against Houston.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches ten passes in Week 14.

James was targeted 12 times against the Ravens, gaining 97 yards on his ten receptions. The Steelers did throw the ball 66 times in the game, and that’s not going to happen often (if again). James isn’t a highly-reccommended option next week against the Patriots.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches one pass in Week 13.

James' lone reception went for 13 yards. You're really hoping for a touchdown if you insert James into fantasy lineups.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught three passes for 32 yards in Sunday's win over the Packers.

James dropped a pass over the middle on what would have been a chunk gain, but Ben Roethlisberger went right back to him and picked up a first down on the same drive. James won't be a recommended fantasy option against Cincinnati in Week 13.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James scores against the Titans.

James was targeted eight times in the Steelers' Thursday night win, catching five passes for 21 yards and a touchdown. As the stat line shows, James worked as an underneath target for Ben Roethlisberger throughout the night; and the touchdown came on a nice play-call inside the one-yard line—a play-action fake that helped get James wide-open in the middle of the end zone. The Packers in Week 12 are a difficult matchup against tight ends, so you're really hoping for a touchdown if you want to play James next week. There are probably better TE options out there.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught two passes for 42 yards in Pittsburgh's Week 8 win over the Lions.

Operating as the clear top tight end with Vance McDonald out, James long reception went for 32 yards. McDonald should be back after the team's Week 9 bye, so the two will probably split time and limit each other's fantasy value.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught three passes for 24 yards in Sunday's 30-9 loss to Jacksonville.

James will make some plays for Pittsburgh, but he's not a fantasy option against the Chiefs in Week 6, especially with the offense struggling.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught three passes for 40 yards in Sunday's win over the Ravens.

James has a reception of at least 12 yards in every game to start the season, and he's on pace for 60 catches for 508 yards and eight touchdowns. Still, he's only a fantasy option when the matchup is right, and Vance McDonald could cut into his playing time as we get deeper into the season.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught two passes for 19 yards in Sunday's loss to the Bears.

James has unsurprisingly trended downward since his two-touchdown performance in the season opener. Despite Jacksonville scoring three touchdowns from the tight end position against the Ravens on Sunday, James won't be a good fantasy option as they head to Baltimore for Week 4.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James is back in the game for the Steelers.

James had his shoulder evaluated, but he's back for the Steelers.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James (shoulder) is questionable to return against the Bears.

James went to the locker room to get evaluated, so we'll see if he's able to get back int the game.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches four of five targets in Week 2.

James had four receptions for 27 yards against the Vikings. He's been an outlet for Ben Roethlisberger over the first two weeks of the season, and he does offer some solid fantasy potential each week. There are probably better options for Week 3, though.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James scores twice in season opener.

James caught six passes for 41 yards against the Browns, including two touchdowns inside the five-yard line. People got excited about newly-acquired tight end Vance McDonald, but James already has chemistry with Ben Roethlisberger and is the preferred fantasy option for at least the early part of the season. He gets the Vikings next Sunday.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches one pass for 12 yards in Week 3 of the preseason.

James could be done for the preseason if the Steelers opt to hold out all of their starters in Week 4 of the preseason. The big tight end should be able to deliver at least TE2 value this season, though he's going undrafted in fantasy drafts.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James catches five passes for 48 yards in AFC Championship loss.

James will be back with Pittsburgh next season, but likely as a backup behind Ladarius Green or someone else.

Jesse James has big game to help Steelers get Divisional Round win over KC.

James had five receptions 83 yards. He got open in the middle of the field a few times against the Chiefs, helping the Steelers drive the field. If Ladarius Green (concussion) is out again next week, James will be a key in the AFC Championship.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James had four catches for 49 yards in the Steelers' win over Baltimore.

James played a bigger role with Ladarius Green (concussion) sidelined, but fellow tight end Xavier Grimble ended up with a touchdown on Christmas. Pittsburgh should give Green another week to get over his concussion with a meaningless game against Cleveland on Sunday, so James could be a great option against Cleveland's 32nd ranked defense against tight ends.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught one pass for five yards on Sunday.

With Ladarius Green's emergence since returning from injury, James isn't a fantasy option.

Jesse James | Bears TE

Jesse James caught one pass for five yards in Sunday’s win.

James was better than Ladarius Green, but that isn’t saying much. The Steelers passing attack didn’t do much in a windy game. James will be a TE2 in Week 12 against the Colts.

Jesse James | Bears TE

The Outlaw Jesse James remains involved in Steelers offense.

Despite the return of Ladarius Green, James caught four passes for 59 yards for the Steelers—his best game since Week 5. James isn't a good fantasy option, but there is always a chance he can catch a TD from Ben Roethlisberger.
