Theo Riddick has retired from the NFL.
Riddick—who turned 30 in the spring—is hanging up his cleats after playing six seasons with Detroit and one with Las Vegas. The former Notre Dame standout had an 80-reception season back in 2015, but his contributions have decreased every year since then, and he’ll now enjoy life after football. Overall, Riddick ends his career with 294 carries, 1,037 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 290 receptions, 2,281 receiving yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns.
The Raiders are re-signing Theo Riddick.
Vegas just signed Kenyan Drake today, but they're also keeping Riddick in the running back room. The veteran back will mostly contribute in passing situations this season.
The Raiders are signing Theo Riddick.
Riddick missed all of last season with the Broncos because of a shoulder injury, and he finally finds a new landing spot in Las Vegas. The Raiders have an intriguing running back group and they already added (then quickly cut) Jeremy Hill earlier this summer, so Riddick will have to earn a roster spot in the next few weeks.
The Broncos placed Theo Riddick (shoulder) on injured reserve.
Riddick is dealing with a shoulder injury suffered in the preseason, and Denver went ahead and placed him on injured reserve while keeping the ability to bring him back in eight weeks as a designated-to-return player. The former Lion can safely be dropped in any fantasy leagues he's owned in.
Theo Riddick (shoulder) is out six-to-eight weeks.
9News' Mike Klis says Riddick suffered a slight fractured shoulder during Thursday's preseason game. This six-to-eight week timeframe means Riddick should miss at least a couple of regular season games, but hopefully he's able to get back by the end of September. The injury to Riddick should lock Devontae Booker into a roster spot, which looked uncertain after the addition of Riddick. Also, Riddick's injury could lead to more third-down work for Phillip Lindsay early in the season.
Theo Riddick is signing with the Broncos, according to multiple reports.
Riddick was released by the Lions after six seasons last week, and he received interest from several teams. The 28-year-old has at least 50 receptions in four straight seasons, and he'll instantly become another reliable target underneath for quarterback Joe Flacco. However, this signing is probably bad news from a fantasy perspective, as Denver looks like it'll be a full-blown committee with Phillip Lindsay, Royce Freeman, and Riddick. Fourth-year running back Devontae Booker could be a trade candidate this summer.
The Lions are releasing Theo Riddick, according to Ian Rapoport.
There were rumors of this potentially happening, but since it’s coming in July, the receiving back will at least have plenty of time to find a new home. Tampa Bay immediately comes to mind as an option, but as for Detroit’s backfield, this is another boost to Kerryon Johnson as a strong RB2 option.
Theo Riddick gets four carries against the Packers.
Riddick gained 24 yards on his four attempts in the Lions' Week 17 win. Riddick's season ends with 40 carries for 171 yards and 61 receptions for 384 yards in 14 games. This was Riddick's lowest yard-per-reception average of his career (6.3), and it was the first season of his six-year career that he didn't find the end zone. Riddick is entering a contract year next season, but he only looks like a fantasy option in deeper PPR leagues.
Theo Riddick handles seven touches in Week 16 loss.
Riddick rushed three times for a loss of two yards, also adding four carries for seven yards. Detroit's receiving back will only be a FLEX option in deeper PPR leagues for the season finale against Green Bay.
Theo Riddick handles ten touches in loss to the Bills.
Riddick rushed eight times for 47 yards, also adding two receptions for nine yards. The rushing yards were a season-high for Detroit's receiving back, and he will continue to have some value in deeper PPR formats if Kerryon Johnson (knee) misses another game in Week 16. The Lions take on the Vikings next Sunday.
Theo Riddick handles ten touches in Week 14 victory.
Riddick rushed six times for 28 yards and caught four passes for 30 yards. The receiving numbers actually led the team with Matthew Stafford throwing for just 101 yards, but Detroit didn't need much offensive production in Arizona. Riddick won't be a strong play next week against the Bills.
Theo Riddick handles 11 touches in loss to the Rams.
Riddick rushed eight times for 32 yards, also adding three receptions for 26 yards. Detroit's receiving back has seen more work as Kerryon Johnson (knee) recovers, and he will continue to be a usable fantasy asset in PPR leagues if the rookie misses more time. Next up is a trip to face the Cardinals.
Theo Riddick gets nine touches in Week 12.
Riddick carried two times for 12 yards and caught seven passes (on seven targets) for 48 yards. The versatile running back should continue seeing several targets if Kerryon Johnson (knee) remains out, but he's more of just a PPR FLEX option and probably doesn't need to be owned in standard-scoring leagues.
Theo Riddick gets six touches in Week 11.
Riddick carried once for no yards and caught five passes (on seven targets) for 30 yards. If Kerryon Jonson (knee) misses time, Riddick would be in the FLEX conversation for PPR leagues in particular.
Theo Riddick caught six passes for 60 yards in Sunday's loss to the Lions.
He didn't record a carry, but his seven targets were second on the team. Riddick has been an immediate factor since returning in Week 9, but he's only worth considering in PPR leagues down the stretch, especially with Kerryon Johnson proving he can also handle work as a pass-catcher. Detroit takes on Carolina next Sunday.
Theo Riddick catches seven passes against the Vikings.
Riddick's seven receptions were a team-high for the Lions, and he gained 36 yards on them. It's good to see Riddick back on the field after missing two games, but he's only a fantasy option in PPR leagues as a low-upside FLEX option.
Theo Riddick (knee) is active for the Lions.
Riddick was able to get back to being a full practice participant on Friday and was off the Week 9 injury report, so this was expected. Riddick isn't a highly-recommended fantasy option as a member of Detroit's committee backfield, but he has some deep-league PPR FLEX appeal.
Theo Riddick (knee) is officially out this week.
Riddick didn't practice this week, and he remains week-to-week as he attempts to return from his knee injury.
Theo Riddick (knee) has been ruled out for Week 7.
Riddick didn't practice all week because of his knee injury, and he should be considered week-to-week for now. This could mean Ameer Abdullah, who had been phased out of Detroit's offense, could get some time on third downs against the Dolphins. Rookie Kerryon Johnson might also take on a bigger workload for the Lions given his all-around skillset.
Theo Riddick gets five touches in Week 5.
Riddick carried three times for three yards and added two receptions for 20 yards against the Packers. The Lions weren't forced to pass the ball much in a game they were frontrunners. Riddick will be on the PPR FLEX radar when the Lions return from their Week 6 bye.
Theo Riddick gets five touches against the Cowboys.
Riddick carried one time for seven yards and caught four passes (on five targets) for 20 yards in the Week 4 loss. Riddick continues to receive a good amount of playing time despite the emergence of rookie Kerryon Johnson, making him a FLEX option in PPR leagues. Through four games, Riddick is on pace for 20 carries for 108 rushing yards and 84 receptions for 42 receiving yards.
Theo Riddick catches all three targets in Week 3.
Riddick gained 36 yards on his three receptions against New England, but he didn't receive a carry as Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount received 16 carries each. With 17 receptions through three games, Riddick is a PPR FLEX option.
Theo Riddick catches nine passes in loss to the Niners.
Riddick didn't record a carry, but he caught nine passes for 47 yards. We think Detroit should give Kerryon Johnson most of the offensive snaps, but Riddick will likely be involved as a receiver all year, including in Week 3 against the Patriots. Still, he is just a decent FLEX option in PPR formats and not a recommend own in standard leagues.
Theo Riddick leads the Lions in Week 1 rushing.
Riddick gained 20 yards on four carries, the the Lions didn't get much going on the ground to start the season, especially because they were forced to pass when they fell behind in the second half. Riddick also added five receptions for 15 receiving yards in the loss. He'll be a PPR FLEX option in Week 2 against the Niners.
Theo Riddick gets six touches to end the regular season.
Riddick had four carries for ten yards and two receptions for 12 yards against the Packers. His regular season ends with 84 carries for 286 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns along with 53 receptions for 444 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. He should have a role as a third-down back for the Lions in 2018.
Theo Riddick leads backfield in touches as Lions are eliminated from playoff contention.
Riddick rushed eight times for 16 yards and caught three passes for 23 yards. Despite it being a close game throughout, the Lions aired it out 35 times, and it didn't lead to much success. Riddick led the team in carries and touches, but the backfield will be difficult to predict in Week 17 with nothing to play for, so it's best to look elsewhere.
Theo Riddick leaves against the Bears with a wrist injury.
Wrist injuries have given Riddick issues in the past, so this might be it for him tonight with the Lions up 20-3 in the fourth quarter. Riddick had eight carries for 49 yards and three receptions for 12 yards (and one fumble lost) before leaving the game, and hopefully he ends up being OK for next week against the Bengals.
Theo Riddick leads backfield, scores twice in Week 14 win.
Riddick rushed 10 times for 29 yards and two touchdowns, adding six receptions for 64 yards. The dynamic back operated as the lead guy with Ameer Abdullah inactive, and he took advantage of the opportunity. He only averaged 2.9 yards per carry, though, so we'll see if Abdullah is activated for Saturday's game against the Bears. If not, Riddick is a FLEX option in standard leagues and a quality RB2 in PPR formats.
Theo Riddick handles 14 touches in loss to the Ravens.
Riddick rushed nine times for 21 yards and a touchdown, adding five receptions for 41 yards. The versatile back saw an extended workload with Ameer Abdullah (neck) inactive, but rookie Tion Green led the backfield with 51 yards on 11 carries. Whether or not Abdullah returns in Week 14, Riddick isn't someone fantasy owners should rely on—particularly in standard leagues—with the fantasy playoffs beginning.
Theo Riddick gets six touches against the Vikings.
Riddick carried five times for 20 yards and added one reception for ten yards in the Thanksgiving day game. Detroit is using him more as a runner as of late, but the team doesn't run the ball enough right now for him to be a recommended fantasy option.
Theo Riddick rushed nine times for 35 yards in Sunday's win over the Bears.
Riddick led the team in rushing yards, but he was held to just one reception for four yards as a receiver, while Ameer Abdullah caught a touchdown and out-touched him. Riddick should be more involved as a pass-catcher on Thanksgiving against the Vikings, but he's nothing more than a PPR FLEX option.
Theo Riddick scores in Week 10 win.
Riddick rushed four times for 35 yards and caught three passes for 12 yards, including an eight-yard touchdown. It was Riddick's second time finding the end zone this season, and his 35 rushing yards were his most of 2017. However, with Ameer Abdullah healthy, Riddick's upside is limited. He's probably a better real-life option for Detroit than he is fantasy option. The Lions travel to Chicago next Sunday.
Theo Riddick gets nine touches in Lions' win.
Riddick carried five times for 11 yards and added four receptions (on four targets) for 62 yards, with a long catch of 63 yards on a screen pass that he nearly took the distance. Through eight games, Riddick is on pace for 54 carries, 142 rushing yards, 58 receptions, 534 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns. He's a good player for the Lions, but Riddick doesn't need to be on fantasy rosters right now in standard-sized leagues.
Theo Riddick gets six touches against the Steelers.
Riddick carried four times for 21 yards and caught two passes (on two targets) for 24 yards. Riddick is just a FLEX option in deep PPR leagues for now.
Theo Riddick gets seven touches against New Orleans.
Riddick carried twice for eight yards while adding five receptions (on seven targets) for 45 yards. Ideally, he would've done more with his team down and throwing the ball 52 times in the game, but it was an OK day for PPR leagues. Riddick doesn't need to be on fantasy rosters, especially with a bye this week for the Lions.
Theo Riddick totals 53 yards in loss to the Panthers.
Riddick caught four passes for 45 yards and rushed twice for eight yards. Game flow had the Lions playing from behind, but it still wasn't a great performance for Riddick. Perhaps he will breakout in a shootout with New Orleans next week, but Ameer Abdullah is the clear top option for Detroit.
Theo Riddick gets five touches in Week 4.
Riddick carried four times and surprisingly only had one reception (on two targets) for eight yards. The fifth-year back hasn't had any great games yet, and he's on pace for 56 carries for 92 yards and 56 receptions for 360 yards and four receiving touchdowns. He's worth holding on to in PPR leagues, but it's OK if you want to drop him.
Theo Riddick caught four passes for 38 yards in Sunday's loss to the Falcons.
He didn't receive a carry with Ameer Abdullah dominating early-down touches. Even in PPR leagues, Riddick doesn't have much upside, and he probably isn't even worth owning in standard leagues. Detroit travels to Minnesota for Week 4.
Theo Riddick gets 12 touches in Week 2.
Riddick carried nine times for 20 yards and added three receptions for 17 yards against the Giants. He didn't pop on the stat sheet, but Riddick flashes a couple nice runs late in the game and spun through a few tackles to pick up positive yards. Riddick will be in the FLEX conversation for PPR leagues next week versus the Falcons.
Theo Riddick catches touchdown in season opener.
Riddick had six receptions for 27 yards, including a seven-yard score. He also rushed once for a one-yard loss. Fantasy owners would like for Riddick to get more than seven touches (Ameer Abdullah had 18), but they can't complain after he found the end zone. Detroit travels to New York to play the Giants on MNF next week.
Theo Riddick gets one touch in Week 3 of the preseason.
Starter Ameer Abdullah handled almost all the work with the first team, getting 16 touches. Meanwhile, Riddick had only one carry for no yards. With Abdullah looking to handle the majority of the work in Detroit's backfield, it looks like Riddick might only be an option in PPR leagues in 2017.
All five of Theo Riddick's reception touchdowns last season were in the red-zone.
Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com believes Riddick is one of the best red-zone weapons in the NFL because of his receiving ability out of the backfield. He can make linebackers look really bad in coverage because he is such a good route runner. The Lions decided against re-sining Anquan Boldin, who had eight touchdowns last season, so Matthew Stafford could be looking Riddick's way more often this season, given Riddicks' effectiveness in that area. A healthy Ameer Abdullah is the starter and could also get a lot of red-zone work, but Riddick should be a very good PPR option in 2017.
Theo Riddick had surgery on both of his wrists, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Riddick battled wrist injuries at the end of last season, and ultimately was put on IR. It seemed a little odd how much time Riddick missed with his wrist injury, but this double wrist surgery explains it. The Free Press says the surgery is what landed him on IR, although the Lions did not make it public. Riddick is expected to be ready for OTAs and he should be 100% for the season. The Lions may add another back in the draft or free agency, but Riddick will have a role regardless. He'll be a solid PPR option in 2017.
Theo Riddick (wrist) has been placed on IR by the Lions.
His wrist injury really is lingering, as Riddick won't be able to play even if the Lions make a deep playoff run. Riddick's season ends with 92 carries for 357 yards and a touchdown and 53 catches for 371 yards and five receiving touchdowns in ten games. He'll be back with Detroit next season, and will be a solid RB2 in PPR leagues and should be a decent option in standard leagues.
Theo Riddick (wrist) out again for the Lions.
It's Riddick's third straight missed game. He'll try to get healthy for what's basically the NFC North championship game next Sunday night against the Packers.
Theo Riddick (wrist) is out for the Lions.
He'll miss a second straight game and the Lions will rely on Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner against the Giants.
Theo Riddick (wrist) listed as doubtful by the Lions.
Riddick will likely miss his second straight game with a wrist injury. None of the Lions running backs are good fantasy option against the Giants.
Theo Riddick (wrist) out for the Lions.
It's a surprising inactive for Detroit, as Riddick was expected to play this week against the Bears. The Lions will try to get it done this week without their number one running back. Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner will take most of the work with Riddick out. Neither of them are great options.
Theo Riddick rushed four times for two yards and caught five passes for 15 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' win over the Saints.
Riddick scored a one-yard receiving touchdown early in the game, and wasn't really heard from since. The Lions gave Zach Zenner nine carries and Dwayne Washington four before he left the game. Riddick is just a decent FLEX option in standard leagues as the fantasy playoffs get underway in Week 14.
Theo Riddick gets 14 touches against Minnesota.
He had nine carries for 45 yards and five catches for 13 yards. Dwayne Washington had five carries and averaged 3.8 YPC behind Riddick. Keep Riddick in your lineup as a FLEX/RB2 next week against the Saints.
Theo Riddick leads Lions in receiving in Week 11.
Riddick had four carries for 13 yards and eight catches for 70 yards. At running back, Dwayne Washington averaged under 0.5 yards per carry, so Riddick might get some more carries moving forward. Riddick is better in PPR than standard, but he’s a good option in both. Riddick had 14 carries for 70 yards against the Vikings in his first matchup; he faces the Vikings on Thanksgiving.
