Join now >Baker Mayfield has requested a trade, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Pelissero says that “the bridge is burned” following Cleveland’s pursuit of Deshaun Watson, and Mayfield’s agent recently contacted the team to communicate the request. Many will joke about the situation at Mayfield’s expense, but it’s certainly understandable to want out if your team publicly goes after another quarterback. The Browns—who say they will not accommodate the trade request—will now have to look for a new franchise quarterback assuming Mayfield holds firm, and the former No. 1 overall pick is said to be interested in the Colts and Seahawks as possible destinations. We’d expect a move comes at some point before the draft so both Mayfield and the team can move forward.

The Bengals are signing Hayden Hurst.
Hurst will help release C.J. Uzomah, who left for the Jets during free agency, at tight end. The former first-round pick remains an intriguing player, and we’ll see if he can step into a key role as a target for Joe Burrow in Cincinnati’s offense this season.

The Patriots are signing Ty Montgomery.
This is somewhat surprising after New England brought back James White to a backfield that already includes Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson. However, Montgomery will probably fill a similar role to the one Brandon Bolden, who signed with the Raiders, played for Bill Belichick’s squad. Montgomery should be a strong contributor to the Patriots, but we’ll see if he can get enough touches to become a fantasy factor in 2022.

The Bengals are re-signing Brandon Allen.
Allen will again back up Joe Burrow in 2022. The former Arkansas quarterback threw two touchdowns and no interceptions in his limited action last season, and he has good familiarity with Zac Taylor’s offense.

The Bills are releasing Cole Beasley.
Beasley had requested a trade, and the Bills are now moving on after being unable to find a partner. The role for the veteran declined down the stretch in 2021 with the emergences of Isaiah McKenzie and Gabriel Davis, so this shouldn’t be a huge loss for the championship-hopeful Bills if everyone can stay healthy. That said, Beasley should still have plenty left in the tank entering his age-33 season just one year removed from an All-Pro campaign, and he shouldn’t have trouble landing a starting job somewhere.

The Bengals are re-signing Mike Thomas.
Thomas caught just five passes in the regular season last year, but he did have a reception in the Super Bowl and will continue to be depth behind Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd in 2022. Look for the biggest impact to come on special teams for Thomas.

The Dolphins are signing Trent Sherfield.
It’s a one-year deal as Miami signs another former San Francisco player that already knows Mike McDaniel’s offense. The 26-year-old didn’t see a ton of offensive action last season, but we like his talent if given a chance for extended playing time behind Jaylen Waddle, DeVante Parker, and Cedrick Wilson. Offensive line help could be a priority in the draft after a few skill-position signing this week.
